Thom, one of their Factory Certified Master Techs, heard I was looking for a GT3 and he pointed me to Mark, one of their sales guys. I called Mark. Left him a voice mail. Never met him. He said that his first few cars were sold, and that he'd have a car that I can build for a March delivery. (This was back in June). I said, no problem. I want one. Gave him a deposit.
The waiting begins.
September: We started spec'ing the car based on the European options and our sixth-sense about what would NOT be available in the US.
November: Order goes in.
December: I swing by to say hi to Thom and Mark. Find out that a few other old friends were at the shop... Including their new General Manager.
January: Start hanging around 6 Speed (There was no six speed the last time I was into the Porsche thing -- only CFG's 996 Board) and realize the mods are about to begin.
February: When they find out I'm actually gonna track the car, the whole shop becomes very helpful on locating and selecting upgrades. Thom's prepared a number of Porsche cars for me over the years and working with his expertise again has been so great. The guy truly epitomizes 'Master Technician'. The car gets ripped apart for before we close the deal (which we did yesterday.
Honestly, I think the guys there are more excited about the car than me. Mark sends pics after every mod is completed. They want to come up to the track with their own rides and drive, too.
One thing to keep in mind that I'm the kind of guy that does not argue or weasel prices. If I think a price is fair on something, I pay. If I don't think it's fair, I walk. There is no negotiation at retail. If you're not straight on step one, I'm out.
I've seen so many guys try to weasel $500 off of $100,000.00+ cars. Then, everytime they walk in to that shop for service or buy the next car, the dealership works to 'extract' that $500 from the customer. (Classic Coach Ferrari in New Jersey is a perfect example. If you want to save 0.05% on a car so you feel like you got a deal, he'll close the deal to move the car. But those guys never forget...)
It's important to me to be able to trust the folks I do business with, and I trust those guys immensely. I highly recommend Mark and Porsche of Huntington.
