Why the restrictors

Why is the RSR running w/ restrictors? If it because Porsche isn't offering a street car w/ 3.8L motor? If so, why can't they just offer that motor??? I want one sooooooo bad............

The 3.8 Motorsport engine was developed to be used in ALMS (GT-2) and Grand-am racing. All engines in the ALMS are restricted. The larger the engine, the larger the restrictor. Its easier to equalize the competition by mandating restrictor sizes and Porsche does offer 3.8 in a couple models. In Grand-Am (Daytona Prototype) the Porshe engine is limited to 3.99 liters. This is pretty good horsepower with internals that are basiclly "off the shelf". BTW.....the Porsche motorsport motors (or any pure racing motor) would not make very good street motors, but from 4k to 8k rpm, very sweet. This includes the 3.6 "cup" motor.

Well, 997 Cup's were $260k when they were first released. So obviously an RSR is significantly more.

For those wondering why you cant use that engine in a street car, it's because it's life is measured in HOURS, not miles. I mean, you COULD run it in a street car, but with the 5-9k powerband and the constant rebuilds I think you'd be hating life after about one week. Btw the 500hp figure was WITHOUT restrictors, not with. I heard it was maxed out around 520bhp.

I take that back it's $338.5K for an RSR and $142K base for a Cup.

Prices float around the internet.

Buying a Cup car is tough.

Buying an RSR is even tougher. Porsche selects those who get them.

Hi,

First post here...been lurking for a while and love this forum and the great enthusiasm displayed in these parts.

WRT the RSR; we are currently getting 506 rear wheel HP in the unrestricted form, though this needs to be remapped by the evil genius "Person X" at PMNA.
