How to make a Gt3 lighter?
#46
You probably need to keep in check where you want to take the wieght off since that affects distribution...duhh. Was watching on tv a race at Watkins Glen between an M3 and C2S. The announcers was saying how well the Pcar was handling in the rain because of the rear-bias wieght over the engine = more traction as compared to the M3. However, in the dry the M3's 50/50 had the advantage (???).
Anyway, how would making the Pcar's weight distr. more even affect its handling? Better or worse?

Of course these guys are driving on big slicks and have more DF, but in general, adding a little weight to the front of the car will help push as opposed to making the car heavy on the oversteer side with suspension tuning. But add the weight, then Corner Balance and tune the suspension again with that in mind.

To save weight immediately you should probably start off with the simplest inexpensive things - remove all CDs, loose change, porno mags and hair styling products from within your car. Tear off the Porsche hood embelem and GT3 boot logo. Fill the inside of the car with helium. Remove the fabric padding from the seats, steering wheel and on the floor. Get a shorter haircut. Replace the engine with a really buff hamster in a running wheel. Pray for G0D to change the gravitational constant of the universe..

Install a Titanium Akrapovic Evolution Race Exhaust System
About 6 weeks ago I installed this very system on my GT3 RS, its better than I could imagine and the whole system as you can see on the picture weighs only 31 lbs, I believe that is almost 70 lbs lighter than stock. I don't think there is a better place to loose weight on a GT3 than 2 - 3' behind the rear axle.
I believe to be the first in the US with this system installed. Very soon I will write a report with pictures and sound files.

Pardon if the following sounds a bit harsh but...
Losing one or two hundred pounds off of the car is really playing in the margins unless you are a spectacular driver. And if you are spectacular (in both talent and experience) you've probably been hanging with people who well know how to lighten the car.
Since you're asking, I presume not. Of course, I could be wrong and if so, my apologies. But assuming I'm right, clean out the interior, make sure you have some fresh brake fluid in the car and then practice as much as you can.
