Rear main seal

My RS seems to be dripping some oil from the rear main seal. Maybe a teaspoon on the garage floor after every drive. Will this go away or am I in for a huge warranty issue?

Warranty issue. Common fault, Porsche usually makes good on it.

It's RMS. Better now than later.

I actually made a mistake; I got this thread via RSS feed and didn't realize I was in the GT forum. (Mine's a 996.)

Some 996 GT3's have this issue...including mine. My first one would drip a few drops after owning the car for a year. Had it replaced and it does the same thing if it's not driven regularly. If it's driven frequently or tracked, it goes away. I'm having it done once more in the late summer before my warranty expires. I am requesting the 993 varient rms as it has a different seal clamping mechanism than the one used on 996 GT3 964 blocks.

Rockitman, your point is a good one in proof that the P cars are not meant to be garage queens, but rather be driven. Just like with a gun that is not shot regularly will rust no matter how much lubricant you apply.

Is the warranty different in the Gt3 (rs) than the standard porsche for track use? I know no one tracks their cars.

Aloha

Puddle was a bit bigger yesterday. Any Idea how long my dealer will need it to fix it? Car has only one DE day and 1600 miles.

As soon as the dealer has the correct parts in hand, it should be about a 2 day repair. Thing is that the GT3 and GT3 RS parts are not commonly an "in stock" item, and most of the time, they have to be shipped from Germany which could take up to two weeks.

I am suprised to here of so many GT3's having this problem. We are all aware of the vast problem with the regular 996 rear main seal problem, but typically the GT3 and turbo seals are far less likely to leak.

As stated before, the more one of these cars is driven, the less chance of oil leaks. The other function of oil (besides the obvious) is to keep the seals lubricated and moist. It is when the seals become dry that leaks start.
