a sequential transmission shifts into other gears in numerical sequence. the shifting pattern is just forward and reverse instead of the usual H pattern. you cannot skip gears, eg. 5 to 2.... you have to go down each gear 5,4,3,2 wth a sequential. it sounds like it's added work but going down each gear aids in engine braking. going up through the gears is quicker than a h pattern box. you can't do this with a traditional street h pattern box because if the helical cut gears (reduces noise).... a sequential has straight cut gears making it easier to shift. the straight cut gears allow clutchless shifting making allowing faster shifts.
