To me the big question is still whether PNA will force the sunroof on GT3 to build artificial value on the RS in 2008. If they keep doing that I won't get one.

This is a question of principle.

PLEASE what?
Did I ever say the 996GT2 are more exclusive? What's your point?
997GT3 are special and excellent mass production cars that will meet market demands. If you 're saying they are exclusive than that's good for you. Perhaps for me as well when mine comes in July. But no insecurity here.....

Similar news here, although I was told 60.

Sorry sir. But why should the 911 be more exclusive? So that the owners could brag more and be more snobbish? The way I see it if they can make a great car like the 911 at a price allowing more people to drive it, it is a great thing. Cars are not stocks. For others it's just pleasure, but for some of us it's a way of life. And I am glad to see another guy having as much fun as I do in a good car and won't feel bad for not having the most exclusive car in the road...

But mass production KILLS resale...Ferrari owners can enjoy their cars and sell em in 2 years with no major loss...

I lost a LOT on my 03 X50 even though I sold it about 20 months after purcahse with 7K miles (MSRP was 160K sold for 115K...this is without counting loss on mods)

Nice. Although he probably also lost about 20k in taxes.

I agree that Porsche 996 lost their value really quickly... I got burned too.

At Braman Porsche this weekend. Reading from website they were going to build 170 or so more GT3RS for 08. Reasonable source at Braman told me only going to build 80 more cars for 08.Time will tell. Can't go wrong with a GT3 series car. I have learned from experience to enjoy the car and screw the collectability aspect. It's rare to be able to make money on a car.Better to drive it and enjoy it.This way you never lose!!

Hello Everyone,
This is my first post on 6speed. I posted the following information on Rennlist, but in light of the above topic I thought, perhaps, there might be some who would find it of interest here.

My dealer got their '08 allocations for GT3's and RS's last week: two GT3's and no RS's. This compares to their '07 allocation of ten GT3's and three RS's. To provide you with some context, my dealership sold 17 Carrera GT's and sell about 25 Turbos annually.
They have been told there are a total of 105 GT3's for '08 in the US. I have no idea if the RS allocation simply hasn't been made, or whether there will be, in fact, no more RS's after the 229 '07's (including, perhaps, some run overs into '08 when the factory re-opens after their break).
The speculation is that Porsche has come to the conclusion that the steep decline in prices in the aftermarket for the CGT's and 996 GT2's are bad for Porsche, and that they are moving aggressively to demonstrate that they have learned their lesson in not overproducing models which should be their "signature" high end models. Time will tell.
In any event, seems like a good idea to move aggresively in pursuit of a GT3 if you want, but do not yet have, one. As to the future availability of an '08 RS, your guess is as good as mine, as I have heard a variety of "definitive answers" in the last several months...enough different "answers" to tell me that no one really knows.
Does the above allocation information jibe with what you are hearing from your dealers across the country?
Regards,
Ray

I agree with this. I suppose they are willing to compromise on their products in order to generate greater profit (Cayman without Carrera S engine, GT3 with sunroof). Then again, who doesn't these days? It's a shame.

Answer is simple.
The regular GT3 WILL continue to come with a sunroof.
The sunroof is on the GT3 b/c Porsche promised that the RS will be 20kg lighter than the GT3 in ALL markets.
When the DOT started giving them a hard time about the smart airbags, the only way to make the RS "lighter" is to make the GT3 heavier.

So you can keep hoping and wishing but it won't happen.

I heard from a guy who knows a guy, who knows another guy, who has a sister who is married to a guy, who knows a guy at PCNA and he said the '08 GT3 build is closer to 459.
