911 C2S is infamous around these parts
No smoke whatsoever, now at 600 miles.

BTW, gotta love that you can check the oil at a stoplight! With the 7C2S I had to turn the engine off to check.

I'm a 997GT3 (non-RS) and past break-in. Mine does this occasionally.

DM1, looking forward to seeing your car at the parade, I sold my 911 but hopefully I can snag a ride in a outlaw or bring out something cool.

As for the smoke, break it in am, check for it at 1500 miles or so and then make it a issue. The extra idle will help a little bit but not cure the problem if it is mechanical.

About 3500 or so with 2 track days. Already into the second set of tires.

Mine has 1,200 miles on her and smokes if it sits for 48 hours or more! Did we agree that this is normal?

Most have white smoke. No biggie. Dark and ugly black smoke bad. Both my GT3's smoke a little at start up and I think always will.

The reason that they smoke and all 911's do this is because the motor is a flat six and the pistons lay on their sides. So a little bit of oil can collect and sit in the piston chamber which is then burnt off when you start the car and thus causing the white smoke.

Totally normal and nothing to worry about! Now if you are driving along the road and white smoke is pouring out of the engine then NASA we have a problem!

Speaking of start-up... I'm getting a fairly loud grinding/rattling type noise that begins a few seconds after a cold startup and lasts for about a second. It's sporadic, but it is a little disconcerting. Any idea what it is? TIA
