Finally! Porsche to launch its own Dual Clutch Gearbox!!

No offense to tiptronic owners, but DAMN, I'm glad they are getting rid of tiptronic.
I will likely always prefer a true manual, but at least this is better than a traditional automatic. Much better.

I've read that, while quick, double clutch systems do not feel sporty/racy in use... i.e. too smooth, no character. I've never used one, so I don't know for sure. Though, I can imagine how it would feel and tend to believe these reviews.
On the other hand, for certain applications the system might be awesome - for example, fitted to a Turbo... maintain boost levels in between shifts without the Tiptronic's power robbing, sluggish automatic.

Can’t wait to see what Porsche does with their PDK. If they can make it as smooth as VW/Audi’s DSG in a “non-sport” mode, and when you’re ready to give it the beans in a “sport/race” mode it will shift hard ala BMW’s SMG III on setting 6 then maybe we’ll have the best of both worlds.
The Veyron's transmission can handle up to 1,106 lb ft of torque.

I am an avid BMW enthusiast. Man do people fight about "true sports cars having a traditional standard and clutch pedal.." I do NOT look forward to this with the Porsche because of that. I did own a BMW M3 with the SMG, and I liked it, ANYONE who said it is not a manual is an uneducated fool...
We will see how this goes with the Porsche, but I would lean towards the traditional 3 pedal version...

The SMG isn't really that fast to make it worth the $6000 it demanded for the M3. This PDK will probably be just as fast as the SMG anyways.
The benefit is the 7 speeds, but that isn't in the E46 M3.
IMO, Porsche's manual transmissions are so easy to use and operate every day that I can't see a need for this unless it has 7 speeds

SMG was a $6000 option on the M3.

Back to the point, I have driven cars with SMG and DSG. I have of course not driven the Veyron with it's gearbox but I can say for every day I plain loved the DSG. It's not as sporty as I would want it but it shifts in such a smooth and comfortable way that I would probably invest the money on it just for the "normal driving days". Supposedly VW is coming with a new lighter version of th DSG that uses dry clutches instead. I think in the next 2-3 years all Audi, BMW and Porsche will have presented their dual clutch gearbox variant.

BMW stated that upshifts took 80ms. That is almost twice as fast as what Ferrari claimed for the Enzo.

Anyways, I have read some reviews saying it takes up to .2 seconds...Still decently fast, but not fast enough for me
NOTE: Should be noted that I also read 80ms on one site as well.
