GT3 Owners

Just wondering whether you guys regret not getting into a GT3RS. Do many of you regret your purchase? If an opportunity came up for you to trade your GT3 for an RS would you do it?

the main reason most people want an rs over a gt3 is because of the widebody and the flywheel...

otherwise, they are pretty much identical cars

i personally love the graphics on the RS !

im curious as to how a 996gt2 would do against a 997 gt3 rs around a track

the power to weight is similar, but the torque on the gt2 might be a huge advantage, or because of turbo lag, delayed torque, and no traction, might be a huge disadvantage...

obviosly it depends on race track

I would think the GT2 would be MUCH harder to handle due to the MASSIVE Torque and the HUGE Turbo Lag during mid corner or corner exit. But with the same compound tires both should be very close on any track.

that's what i was thinking
but... if you put a really good driver, or did a ZC mod to the GT2, i think it would be a totally different outcome

Thats why it goes something like this: GT1>GT>GT2>GT3>Everything else!

Lag is def. overrated! Remember, when you are racing your are pretty much in the upper levels of your powerband. When you are leaving a corner, you are probably in a speed high enough to be able to utilize the upper powerband in a lower gear. I think the pitfall of the car is the increase in torque such a quick manner, but then again traction wouldn't be that much of an issue since the weight of the engine is in the back, above the rear axle, helping traction!

Turbo lag is there no matter if you are in 1RPM or 10,000RPM. With each lift and reapplying the throttle you are creating turbo lag. The turbos slows down when you lift throttle from say 100% to 50% and respool it self after you reapply from 50% to 100%. No matter how crazy turbo technology becomes there is still no substitude for NA throttle responds.

I fully agree with Alan ... the turbo lag is there all the time & at any RPM.
I had the 996 Turbo S & the 997 Turbo, both sold for two RS's ....

Nothing beats the feeling you get from normal aspirated engines IMPO

Although it might create some turbo lag when you lift off throttle, its negligent, such a small amount that cannot be felt! My car feels and sounds almost NA, with RUF's turbo's setup, LWFW and clutch it has amazing throttle response and is a pleasure to drive like a GT3, just doesnt rev as high

Martin, when a Porsche's Rear end snaps loose (especially GT2) you don't have even a split second to loose inorder to save the car. Turbo lag even when its minimal is VERY dangerous in that situation and that situation occurs more often than most think.

Alan I agree it can be a handful in any Porsche, but that's just that, ANY PORSCHE with too much throttle application coming out of a corner or around a turn. On a track you are always in powerband whether its steady throttle or off and on, I can't tell you how many times I've ran sc'd vipers, fully na and so on, and I would always get the jump from a 3rd gear roll even in my ex turbo with K16's!

Martin i absolutely agree with you retarding too much throttle on corner exit and powerband. Also i don't doubt you at all in jumping from a 3rd gear roll. But turbo lag which results in throttle lag on mid corner or corner exit is major on track, FI will never have the throttle responds as NAs.

Alan
