Experience with Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tires

I am interested to hear from those members who have experience driving / tracking the Pirelli P-Zero Corsa, the lesser used alternate tire on the GT3 and RS. They have an apparent asymmetric tread pattern. For whatever it's worth they have a slightly lower treadwear number of 60 opposed to 80 for the Michelin Pilot Cup. How is the handling and grip ?

I've driven both on the street and the track. They are both great tires. I cannot say that I saw any difference on the track regarding both tires in terms of grip. The Corsa's did *appear* like they would perform better in the wet, but from my real world experiences, they both suck when the roads have any amount of standing water (think thunderstorm rain).

I had a factory alignment on the car with the Corsa's and an aggressive alignment on the MPSC's. I did notice that the Corsa's warmed-up quicker. It's hard to say which had more grip on the track due to my alignment configs for each tire.

Moral of story: I can't tell the difference. Both are sticky. MPSC's look cooler.

Having driven on both tyres in 18 inch format (PSC in 18" is slightly different to 19"), the PSC's get my vote over the corsa's in terms of dry grip. The PSCs take longer to heat up, are worse when cold (i use my car for street and track and found the PSC to let go unpredictably when cold) but also wiegh noticeably less and have a higher threshold grip when hot. Having said that, I have done a few track sessions in pouring rain conditions and found the corsas to perform quite well in the wet.

What he said.
I have run MPSC and Corsas on my 996, the dry grip is close but the MPSC are slightly better. The Corsas did have better wet grip though. Plus they were significantly less expensive at the time. However, the Corsas are unidirectional, so they cannot be flipped from side to side, might be an issue at some tracks.

It's a great idea and I wish you can pick the tires you want. But I do not think that will ever happen. No car manufacturer lets you pick the brand tires you want. I think because Porsche cannot control the supply of the tires, they just use 2 different brands incase something happens to one stock.

In Australia, they give every new 997 gt3 owner the option of Pirelli corsa or Michelin PSC on their car. I dont know if there is any cost difference.

hmmm... strange. My uncle just took delivery of his 997 GT3 two weeks ago with pirelli corsa tyres and he said he ordered it with those tyres instead of the Cups originally. As I said before though, for better track performance I would stick with the Michelins.

Maybe they take in consideration the weather climate of where the car is being delivered too. Who knows. I was also told its just what ever was available at the time.
