Bose and chrono are a waste. The car is so loud (good) that, IMO, the upgrade in stereo will not add anything. If it were my car, I would get orange and black wheels. I had black wheels on my Carrera and never had a problem with them chipping.
Things I have on my car which I really like are the carbon sills, small and extended carbon package, and PCCB's. You are right that the stock brakes are great, but the PCCB's stop so well, that I don't think I will have to change them out for track pads- they feel like my Pagid yellows on my Carrera. Also theres that unsprung weight, fade free performance, and no brake dust (wheel cleaning is a 2 minute process now).
Congratulations and have fun!

i got white with chrono so can get approx lap times on track, red fire ext, gauges, and belts. stereo upgrade is decent but havent heard base one to compare. white console and door returns.
had wheels, mirrors, rear wing painted black for $900 total. totally transformed car to me and everyone who's seen it. dont like factory painted wheels b/c leaves edge in aluminum and porsche crest instead of gt3 which i painted white.
if i could do it over i would add full leather just to get the alcantara doors and have white stitching. maybe even go with white dash vents but that might have been too much.
gt3's are perfect but black interior is too drab for me so thats where i upgraded

Icould be mistaken but painting the seat back to the exterior color was not offered in the GT3 for whatever reason. I tried hard to get it. They even called some guy in Atlanta who was the one to know and the answer was NO !! Skip the PCM, it's a track car, whats with navigation ? Save the 3 grand and put it towards the full leather. The stitching on the dash is hot especially in the color of the car. Console in exterior color and the dash trim, maybe the AC vents too. The car is not to be subdued but intense like the GT3/RS really is.

i wish i would have got the stitched dash (extended leather). and the alcantara doors. makes the interior seem a bit nicer. I dont like the wart on the dash either, i also have never used it haha. painted wheels to me just seem a bit cheap looking imho. I hate how they leave the lip unpainted.

there are two options for color on the wheels...
1) painted the exterior of the car - this leaves the silver ring/lip that everyone is talking about
2) deviated wheels - entire wheels are painted in a different color

centre console matching extreior colour - awesome.
PCM, sport chrono and phone integration - i love it. it makes it easier as a DD and has a very handy lap timer when needed.
steel brakes awesome - dont know about PCCB.
i ordered upgraded sound because standard audio in the 996 was s**thouse. audio ok now.

as you predicted...loads of differing opinions. i'll add a few more. without going too much into cosmetic details, i do think a little carbon will break up the monotony of the interior. i also think upgraded audio is a waste. you simply get a better ampflier installed in the front trunck of the car. that adds approximately 20 lbs. of additional weight. i don't know about the standard 997s, but the gt3 has no speakers in the back. that said, the sound sucks regardless so i think it's wasted money and unnecessary additional weight. i would definitely consider pccb - the breaking is quite special. in fact, i'd probably save on the cosmetic details and put the money towards this option. i'd also skip the gps module but it does come in handy during road trips. finally, i like the look of a wheel painted in a different body color. i have an 07 gt3 in white with black wheels. real cool! if you worry about damaging the rims...porsche/audi offers a wheel and tire protection. i paid about $600 for a 5 year protection. now, i normally don't buy these type of insurance, but given the wheel and tire design/costs, and the nature of our public roadways, it seems to make sense considering the protection is offered at the same price to those who are buying Audis A4s and Touregs.

i have white 3 with black wheels i had done by bodyshop but i cant upload pix here. i posted them in july on ferrarichat.com. i can email pix to you also.
aftermarket painting is better b/c can get the gt3 center logo in white which is better than gold crest. also paint entire rim black without alum outter ring. cost about 1/3 factory. put 1200 miles on them no problem so far

If you stick with Carrara White you won't be unhappy. The car is not boring and looks classy and hot and the same time. I would recommend the Full Leather, Crest in Head rest looks great and without a doubt add the white stitching. That is one of the best options you can add. The carbon brakes aren't worth the upgrade. The big reds are a good brake and I race them all the time. So what if you have to clean them. I have carbon on my TT and wouldn't know the difference in the 98% of standard driving. Don't upgrade any sound from Porsche you'll never here it anyway. Use the $6k and make the system inside outstanding by a pro shop. If you were in the nw I could set you up with a shop that is sick. Seat backs in exterior color will look cool for a little while but you will get tired of them and when you resell the car it will add one thing that might make 60% of buyers walk away. Going with Lime or Orange exterior will maybe make it look like you wanted an RS but didn't get one. White with Black Wheels and Black Wing would or Carbon Wing would look really great.
