thanks for all the input guys, greatly appreciated. This has probably been beaten to death but what exactly is the problem with the '04 transmission, if someone could give a brief explanation?

The 04 clutch was prone to failure, usually around 5k miles, and was around 5k to fix. Most people with these cars got the upgraded newer clutches later introduced by lambo, and an ecu flash.

Nothing wrong with the transmission itself.. It was more so computer tuning, way too aggressive/clunky that wore down the clutch real fast... It was updated with the 05's on up!

$127k-$130k, usually the cheaper cars have some issues so be careful!

I don't think the LP550 will affect the the standard Gallardos much because the LP550 will be very expensive. My guess is $250-$280k. Optioned out standard Gallardos run $200-$230k. I think the cars that will be affected is the Super Leggera.

the 04 clutch problem only applies to e-gear? not 6 speed, right?

Correct! The E-Gears only have that problem due to the transmission program. E-Gears with those problems could be taken to the dealer and having the software updated to get rid of the problem. The problem was caused by slow traffic conditions where the transmission would ride on the clutch.

Not entirely true. The clutches friction material on the early G's was not up to task. They went through a few different types between 04/05 (The 05 clutches were not much better). It is very common to see 6 speed cars with new clutches as well. The clutch you want is Revision E (or better), or what is commonly referred to as 'the sintered clutch' or 'the 06 clutch'.

The E-gears seemed more problematic for a few reasons - #1. 90% of the Gallardo's are E-gear, #2. As stated earlier, the e-gear software was not optimized.

As everyone agrees - If the car hasn't had a clutch yet (and make sure you get the documentation on it if they say it has), then knock $5k off.
