gut out a tubi???
so i bought this used tubi (serial number 000018085) for my 04 G and i think i bought the regular quieter version....it sounds high pitched and all that but it just isn't loud enough. when i close the windows, i can hardly hear it unless i'm past 4-5k rpm. can't really hear downshifts either.
so....since i bought this thing on the cheap, i'm thinking about cutting the can and getting rid of the internal resonator, if any. (has anyone done this?)
i called tubiusa dealer (championmotorsports) and they didn't know what the difference was between the regular and the loud version was but did offer to take my serial number and get back to me on whether the muffler is regular or loud version
so......what do you guys think about cutting open the muffler...am i asking for trouble? maybe i'll just take out all the internals (if any) and leave the chambers alone (if any)....in any case, i'll post up pics if i do this...
any thoughts??? TIA

I cant say if this will or will not work with the Tubi but, one local P-Car dealer has an in house tuning shop and managed to get the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) to sound even better by cutting open the cans and removing some of the baffeling (steel wool) and it made the exhaust tone louder without changing the distinct pitch. You also get a little more crackle and poping on downshifts.
If I understand you correctly, you like the tone and just want to amplify the volume. And yes, the downshifts on the G are a symphony of their own, its almost a crime to have that sound repressed.
Let us know how it works out if you decide to go this route. Good luck!

Yeah, the steel wool or glass packs if any would definitely have to be removed. but i'm just scared of having to do something to the chambers if any. someone also mentioned removing bypass valves...wonder if it's applicable to 04 gallardos...
And yes, it's a travesty to not be able to enjoy the downshifts!

I dont think I would do any modifications to the chambers themselves as this would most likely change the pitch. Best to check with someone who understands how the internals of an exhaust work and more specifically which components affect the sound and won't hurt performance. Last thing you want is to get a check engine light coming on.
I wonder if anyone on the Ferrari forum could help you out, the Tubi is most popular with the F-crowd I think.

i hear bypass pipes add only a bit of sound, more power of course, and i have to deal with the smell!
