How good is the Gallardo?

What's your experience in the Gallardo been like..Headaches? Bliss?

How often do you use the car?

How's the 4x4 handle light snow/rain well?

Is the Porsche Turbo a better Daily Driver.

Basically what's the pluses and minuses of the car?

IF you live in a big city and only plan on driving it once or twice a month...would this be the car?

sound like this would be the perfect car for you, if you choose to drive it 1-3 times a month, because the attention you get, is a little too much from experiences that i know people have gone through. When you have a car like that, remember you cant do the regular things you use to because everyones watching, if you go to donut donuts, to get some coffee people are looking at you like what the hell....My boy had the craving for Mc Donald's one day and people surrounded the car like it was a car show going on outside of the mc Donald's parking lot.......The newer lambo are a lot more service friendly then the old ones, ever since they were taken over by Audi, it became more of a car you can drive without overheating issues and shop headaches. Just my .02 cents, never owned one, test drove one, its a sweet ride though...hope it helps you out a little... P.S GO FOR IT!!!!!!

To answer one of your questions --- is a 911 Turbo a better daily driver? YES.

Thanks for the feedback..

I like the 911 turbo's repuation for a being a daily driver supercar. Also its "eco friendly", its slightly understated presence and its Fuel Economy...I mean for a supercar 20+mph hwy is respectable.

is there enough cargo room in the gallardo for a me and a lady friend for a weekend trip?

is it comfortable to be in for 3+hours? say nyc to nantucket or the hamptons?

You can be in the Gallardo for 3+ hrs, but your lower back will not like it. If you want DD characteristics, the Porsche is probably the better car (I have never owned or driven one, so I am not sure). And no, there is no cargo room, at all. The only space you get is the minimal storage volume under the hood.

I have a 996 wide-body cab (non TT) and a G. While I've only had the G for a month, I absolutely love it. It's true that there's very little storage in the G but that didn't prevent me from making an LA to Vegas run for New Year's with my wife. To me, the 996 is more similar to driving a normal NA car but the lambo is a much more involved driving experience. I realize the comparison isn't fair (non TT vs. 500hp) but my heart races driving the lambo. BTW - both cars are weekend cars for me.

Had a 996 turbo to a 997 turbo to an 07 Gallardo 6spd Nera to my current 08 egear superleggera. The 997 turbo is definitely a better daily driver, hands down, no question. The Gallardo has room for you and your girl and maybe her purse (depending how thrifty she is). You have a little more room 6-8" behind the seats but it truely sucks for storage. The 997 drives nicer, is probably more reliable (allthough Im not settled on that yet), and is a near perfect car. That being said, park it next to the superleggera and you might as well be driving a rolling turd. The Lambo is outrageous, will get you attention like a rock star, and so far has proven to be very reliable and a no issues car. I love the egear allthough it sucks for slow stop and go driving, but makes you into a perfect idiot proof shifter compared to a 6 spd. For a weekend warrior, take the Gallardo. For a daily supercar that must be livable, go for the 997 turbo.

Honestly, 911 turbo and gallardo are about the same in terms of daily driving. I don't think 911 is any more comfortable, I personally find gallardo's seats to be more comfortable for me and the interior room is about the same. If anything, gallardo has better handling characteristics due to mid-engined layout and you'll be less likely to lose control under unfavorable conditions (rain, dirt, snow, etc).

I went from a 997S to a Superleggera. All the previous posts have pretty much covered everything. I will say this, I don't know a single person that has gone from a Porsche to a Gallardo that had regrets (except maybe the attention) but it comes with the territory.

ok i have both driven the turbo for 3 years put on around 17k mile had the gallardo for 3 months put on 4k miles

so here is my experience

both cars are good DD's... drove the G every day.. including rain and snow and it handled it very well

the pcar has more room the g is more fun to drive.. the wifey and i took the G on a couple of weekend trips and you have to pack smart to get everything in... but it did work one small roller and duffle in the front and 2 laptop bags behind the seats

i have experienced no problems what so ever with the G ... on the other hand the p-car was in the shop all the time when i first got it...

maintenance cost are comparable

if your only going to drive it once or twice a month i would get a murcielago

The Lamborghini will definitely give you more attention, maybe too much.
I experienced that some time ago, even when you stop at a red light, people take pictures, ask you to rev your engine every 10mn, asking you to "do smoke with the wheels" to quote them literally

But as a car, the ride is hard, but the car is more fun than a 997 Turbo. If I would only drive it 2 or 3 times à month, I'll go for a Gallardo.

Just my .02 cent

Is it weird that the 450hp porsche is "boring" in comparsion to Gallardo?~ its like insane to say that but it just is...

Also it seems the same reason why everyone loves the Gallardo (aestically) is the root to why its troublesome...

ok the 996tt and 997tt are pretty straight forward and I know what to expect

I ideally want a convertible since this car will be occassionally used...so the superlegra is out. But how would you differentiate/explain the charecterstics between the different G's?

Which model's would present the best "deal"...

the markets going to tank in July again, and I expect a lot of lux items to hit the market.

Well there are really only first gen coupe and convert, u have the SL, and now the LP560 coupe and convertible. as for differences in the years? as the years went on more became standard and some issues were sorted out with the gearbox. other than that not much of a difference, some trim is different, rim style changed but that is about it. as for what year is going to present the best deal? Id say 06-07 they have depreciated enough so that the value is there but no teething problems of the earlier years. You can get a 06-07 for around 140 or so while a early models are around 90ish

what about the "fire" issue. I've seen numerous Gallardo's a blaze and Top Gear even brought it up...

is there a recall or issue?
