Lambo SUV Rumors resurface
Following Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann’s confirmation that the Italian automaker was planning a third model to join its
current Gallardo and Aventador, it was thought to be a foregone conclusion that the 2008 Estoque sedan concept would finally
make production. While that possibility is still on the table, Lamborghini is said to be favoring a whole new direction.
According to Car and Driver, Lamborghini is said to be leaning towards a crossover SUV for its third model.
Lamborghini has produced an SUV in the past – the LM002 – but the new model will be much sleeker,
taking design cues from the BMW X6.
The proposed SUV would still retain some of the LM’s off-road ability, but would have a much greater emphasis on style.
The SUV would likely arrive with just two doors, but would offer seating for four.
Volkswagen Group chairman Ferdinand Piëch is said to be favoring the SUV as it wouldn’t have a direct rival in the market
place. If Lambo decided to go with the Estoque, it would not only have to go against the Porsche Panamera,
but also a crowded field that includes vehicles like the Aston Martin Rapide, Mercedes-Benz CLS and, to a lesser extent,
the new Ferrari FF.
Lamborghini will begin testing of both body styles this summer and will make a decision on the matter by October.
Whatever body style wins out should show up in concept form in 2013 before arriving as a regular production model in 2015.

so if the suv makes the cut, we'll have a poseur cross over to compete with the maserati suv (based on cherokee).
hmm, i think lambo wants a volume car. much like a gallardo. piech is a good businessman.
