Why would they be beat up in 3 years, assuming owners treat them with care?

 

I think all he is saying is that in 3 years, there will be more 04's with higher miles, more previous owners, etc. That being the case, of course the prices will come down. How much, who knows. I'm guessing not too much. These cars have already had their big depreciation. We are talking about a 9 year old car that still goes for $100K plus, 95% of the time.

Comparing the 04 Gallardo and the 996TT. I own a 04 Gallardo and a 997 C4S Supercharged to 500hp currently. I've owned the 996 too. Great car!!! You will be very happy with either car. Just buy what you can afford and especially, what you can afford to MAINTAIN PROPERLY! Reliability of Porsche is fantastic! Easily a daily driver for very low maintenance costs compared to the G. If you go with a 996, get the IMS changed to new bearing. I did on mine and what peace of mind! 997, you won't have that problem. In 3 years, if you chose the Porsche, get a 997! As for reliability of an 04 Gallardo, believe it or not, they are a very reliable car, especially for an exotic. Compared to a Ferrari 360, forget it! They are in the shop all the time! Trust me, I've had one of those too!

A lightly modded 996 turbo will blow away a stock gallardo

 

Much like a Gallardo, can I go third party when doing replacement for parts like clutches and others? That kevlar clutch you listed is expensive... which make is it?

I know a 2001 Turbo is basically equal to a 2004 Gallardo for 0-60 and top speed.

Just reread your earlier post... when you say E-gear, you meant tiptronic? I only heard of e-gear when it's about the Gallardo.

 

Yes I was referring to a Gallardo. A 996 Turbo will cost a lot less for a clutch and basic maintenance work, however a Gallardo isn't that much more.
