Why the automatic? Because they are proven faster.
Why the older IS300 model and 2jzgte engine?
Because they are proven faster than any current 2GR-FSE V-6 or 2UR-GSE V8 by a wide margin.
Would you really want to foot the bill for the R&D to make 1000 reliable horsepower from the two direct injected engines above or just go with the 2JZ setup and use the recipe that is proven?

It's hot. I love the 1st gen IS300 and even have one in my garage. The 2JZ platform just has sooo much support. Sick engine, sick build, sick OMFG when you drop the hammer and of course, sick money.

For everyone that is freaking out over the 100k tag. Here are words from David himself:
From My.IS/Forums
"Thanks for the compliment; on the other hand, don't read too much into the dollar-sign as it's just another editoral trick to grab reader's attention, it's something I did for putting away $20 a day behind the math here:
2001 IS300 @ Summer 2000 w/ dealer options = $36k out the door.
Estimate $20 a day, about $600/$620 a month or $7300 a year, is about $65700 after 9 years; and that totals up to $100k+ aftermath."

I also heard he has some other nicer cars, a hobby is a hobby. He seems to be in his own boundary and you can only give him props for that.

EDIT: Completely missed the one post where he chimed in himself, my bad.

I'm sure you love your Supra just as much as I love this car!
