SLK55 AMG Opinions

I'm currently looking at 08 Iridium silver SLK55 that also has the P30 AMG performance package (lighter wheels, nurburgring suspension, better brakes?), lighting package, and Premium 3. It list for 78k, but the dealer is willing to sell it at invoice for 73k.

To lease is 1640.00 month for 24 months with 12k miles. Right now according to the dealer, there are some special lease rates ( forgive me, I believe better money factor or higher residuals??) I prefer to lease.

Do you think this is a fair deal? Am I missing anything? Does this extra AMG performance package really enhance the car or is it just marketing fluff, etc?

For the past 4 years this car is virtually the same. At this price point
(73k), wasn't sure if there was a different car thats somewhat similar but better, ie. new M3? I really wasn't looking to go above 60k on a new car.

I'm a small light weight guy, so I fit perfectly in the SLK55. I don't mind the automatic. I'm pretty sure I want something thats smallish, comfortable, but also very fast. The Cayman S is a little too harsh. I love the look of the car, the brakes, the telescoping steering wheel, and of course the engine.

Your insight is appreciated.

Jim

for that price i would get a 1 year used C2S... or an E63... i think they are still doing the 999/lease on the E63.

Right now, there are no $999/lease deals on a E63.

Thanks for the C2S recommendation, will keep it in mind.

also, i was looking at an identical SLK55 before my M5.... didn't care for it, then looked at the SL55, and i liked it, but not more than the M5 and it was more than i cared to spend. ultimately, i think for the money, there are a lot better cars than the SLK55...especially with the P30.

I think thats the worst lease deal I've heard all year. 1640 a month for an SLK55, you gotta be kidding me

You can lease an M5 for less, M6's are around 1700-1800...

I don't even get how your dealer ended up with those numbers

An SLK55 should lease for around 800 a month, 900 max.

If you're looking to lease.. Go for an m6! Payment range is about the same but it's a much different animal compared to SLK55...

Jimp. The 030 package gets you the different wheels (which IMHO are much nicer than the stock ones), brakes are larger, suspension is a bit stiffer and I believe that they increase the mph limiter.

The 7Speed in that car is far superior to any smg (or other auto) on the market, although you need to somewhat like the downshifts it makes. (You probably noticed that you feel each step down).

That car will (in a straigt line) take on most of the cars (accept for some of the much higher end cars, 997/6 TT's..... Lambos.... 430s..etc in a straight line), but the Merc (like most cars) can't be everything to all. ( did alot of comparisions last year with the Corvette (Auto), BMW ZM, SLK55(auto) and CaymanS(tip)........back-to-back on the same day and came out with a different decision purely based on the driving I liked to do most.

Just a suggestion. (And by no means am swaying you away from the SLK55). But after driving each, made the final decision (well sorta) based on the driving I like to do more often. For me it was twisty-road mountain drives......... Autocross....... and highway last. I happened to luck into a very unique C4S, but was 1day away from a CaymanS.

...... oh back to suggestion...... If you gonna go with the SLK55 based on where you'd do most of your driving, at least go with the 030 pkg. (very very limited production with that option). I only wish near me at the time they had 55's in something other than black (plus dealers that didnt have their heads totally up their a$$es).

Cool car......... good luck........ go with the 030 pkg (its 100% functional and different than stock)

Ya I agree I almost got a Brand New left over 07' M6 for $5k drive off and about $910.00 a month + tax. For an 08' with the same MSRP ($109,xxx.00) I was around $1300.00 + Tax with the same "drive off fee" not just Cap reduction.

Cool car, and yes, it performs, but...

just has no street cred. If that's important to you. For lots of dollars a month, I want heads to turn! I know that's a bit superficial....it doesn't work for me anyway, as I'm too big for it, but I agree with the others that there are other alternatives for that $$...

Thanks for all the advice/opinions. Can anyone point me to a good lease site, etc where I can actually see all these lease rates that you guys keep talking about.
I agree that 1600.00 seems steep to me.
