300SL Gullwing, fair price?

Hi, I'm looking for a 300SL (1957ish) for a restoration proyect. I came across this, which is in actually good condition (not mint by any means), but decent.

I doesn't require that much work, but its second owner is asking, through an intermediary, with matching numbers, clean title and 29k miles, $625,000.

I've also found mint condition cars not far from that price, which makes me think this option is a bit overpriced. .

Any opinions?

I would go for it regardless of the cost, the car is very iconic and has value. It could possibly appreciate over time.

For an unrestored car it seems way too pricey. I recall seeing real nice restored examples sold at R&M auctions for around $450K- $550K range. Good luck.

+1.
Anyway... IMHO the Gullwing is really at its peak right now and will not see any big increases in value over the next 5-10 yrs.
