which amg cars run with a 997 tt

Lots of apples & oranges here. Head-to-head in a variety of conditions would probably yield a mixed result with the cars mentioned. As we all know, modding cars changes the equation very quickly and there's not too many that are as easily modded as the Turbo line. Stock to stock is a different story b/c 996 TT is basically 8+ years old at this point, 997 TT is 2+ and SL 63 Blk is new. Even though they cut blk's weight it still has to be on the wrong side of 4000 maybe? I'm sure it drives like a very powerful and sure-footed GT, but a sports car it ain't. For the price it should be compared to a 997 GT-2, which would probably whip it's *** in most categories. Even though Porsche's Turbo once was the epitome of a sports car, it has ballooned and softened since the 993. It certainly is no longer a pure sports car. In everything but maybe 0-60 & 1/4 mile, driver would make the most difference.
Let's run down a check list:
1) 2 Seater, Check
2) RWD, Check
3) Low profile/roofline to minimize being top-heavy - Check
4) ~ 650+ Hp, Check
5) Use of exotic materials to enhance performance, Check (its all Al & carbon fiber)
6) Aggressive Rim/Tire & suspension, Check
7) 200 mph+ top speed, Check (and acceleration to match)
8) Huge brakes/fade free stopping power, Check
9) Insurance category rated as sports car, Check
10) Aggressive tranny shifting, Check (w/auto downshift blipping)
I dunno - it looks like a sports car to me (albeit a bit porky as you mentioned). I'd say it's a heavier & better built German Viper for a more discerning customer base. My 2 cents.

I still think the Porsches, 996tt and 997tt, have the edge. And I haven't heard of anyone taking the MB under 4 sec in the 60.

I ran a white one from 15 mph or so on up to freeway speeds while jumping on the 405. This was when my car was stock (not that the exhaust would make much difference now) and I pulled on the car convincingly. I also have ran my old mans E63 and the result was similar. I could not call it 'close' or 'hanging' either, straight up faster.

Not sure about 8 and 9. It doesn't have ceramic brakes (insanity for a 320k car) and the 5 speed auto won't have downshift blipping as far as I know.

Never driven the Black, but know severalk who have and an owner. It is fun, but generally they agree it cannot match the Porsche. It is just too heavy and feels somewhat numb. Plus, there is a lot of performance not tapped in the Porsche, whereas the MB is basically peaked.

IMO (which is very important to me!) my 996TT was not the equal of the CLK Blacks that I've driven ... in corners or in straight line accel. Again, the cars are stock.
As JJayB mentioned, C&D had the Black at 3.8 seconds 0 to 60. YMMV.
Ruthless, what color is your slow CLK Black?
If it's white, you should unload the tub! I know a good home for it.

Okay, so we disagree.
