E500 airmatic: lower or replace w/ COs??

Have had a 06 E500 AMG sport w/ airmatic susp for DD and I am getting tired of the relatively spongy feeling of the susp, even on the sport 2 setting (used to my modded 996TT). Not looking for track performance but something a little more planted going through the twisties

Been searching for the better answer...

1) get a lowering module and potentially have to deal with airmatic failure any day now. Also do not know how much compression resistence is improved on lowering w/ module or does it just bottom out easier;
or
2) convert the airmatic to real adjustable coilovers (but do not know if this is even possible and/or relative expense to do so)

Any one with experience or input??
Many thx,
