Just interested to see if anyone has owned both 06 E55 and 07 E63 share your thoughts. Naturally aspirated vs supercharged. Pros and cons?

'07 E63 hands down...I like the lines better on the E63. Also being supercharged gives it a lot of low-end power. I havent driven the E63, only driven a '05 E55 and are very quick cars. I just like the E63, but not the $100k price tag

IMHO the first question you need to answer is are you going to mod the car to make it faster. If the answer is yes 55 all the way as it has the potential to make much more power easier and cheper than the 63 due to the Sc and plethora of options out there for the 55 cars.

Style is subjective but I like the 63 better as I think it looks more aggressive, again my opinion only.

Both are great cars and can be picked up pretty cheap these days, lots of car for the $$ on the used market as Merc's drop quick especially AMG cars.

55k

I have driven both and i was thinking of trading the E55 in for the 63 but after driving it, 55K motor hands down. Its more of a cruiser, the 6.3L just lacks the grunt and the extra 30hp gain for the loss of over 80 ft lbs of torque isnt worth it. put 4K into a 5.5L K engine and you will beat a 6.3L and have a better driving experience IMO

Or... you can put no money into the E55 engine and still beat an E63...

Both are fantastic cars (have owned both)
As said above, if you want to mod, definitely E55

Personally I like cosmetic upgrades on E63 - front bumper, decklid chrome strip + spoiler, steering wheel, paddles, instrument cluster, seats, BLACK HEADLINER.....

The motor is not a "disappointment" as some state
They both perform very well, obviously have drawbacks/advantages
E63 motor typically pings (tin can full of marbles) with 91 gas which is quite annoying

E63 exhaust is better for positive, and louder if you mod it (which I did and love)
Brake pads on E63 are easier to WORK on - (no locking mechanism that needs to be disabled) - however the rotors are more expensive as they are one piece... but for city driving to save money can put the E55 rotors on...

I look at it this way - as I mainly keep motor stock, E55 with supercharger/clutch pack/intercooler has more moving parts to go "bad"....

I also like the fact that AMG designed the 6.3 from scratch vs. bolting on a supercharger.
Hope this helps ! Drive both !!!

Agree the 6.2 is new ground up AMG, will out last the 5.5 which is a MB engine that has some beefed up parts.

well to be fair even though the block was based off a production V8 bore and stroke were modified, new heads plus the SC and twin intercoolers so id say it was 65% redesigned. Not just bolted on

What we now need is AMG to beef up the 6.2 and add all the 55's super charger stuff to it. wonder what that baby will be putting out???

I've never driven the E63, but my mom has an 06 E55 and it's one of my favorite cars. Although I think the E63 is a bit racier and a bit 'newer' looking with the vertical vents on the front bumper, sharper lines, etc I have heard/read it lacks that "kick you back in your seat" feel of the 55 kompressor. I could be wrong, because again, I have never personally driven the 63.

I've driven an SL55 for about a week as well, pretty cool cars. Love AMG.

Can't go wrong either way
