New personal best in the SL600
Good enough for #2 quickest SL600 on record. Still no drag radials yet, so this was on my 20" Savini Forged wheels with a 305/25/20 rear tire.

Oh yeah, the car us tuned.
I don't really post here too much because this site seems to be Porsche-centric, but it's gone through a few different tune configurations, as well as some aesthetic changes. Here's what she looks like today!

Great straight-line times for a streeter. Has anyone ever tracked an SL with any success? I know they have good power & tourque, but how do they handle corners? I never see any SL's at the track days I attend. My old 560SL is definitely no racer - it rocks and rolls in the turns like a ship at sea.
Great photos, btw.

As the morning sunrise.
Ha! You're everywhere. I'll be there early.
The 1.70 was on 20" street tires! No secret, just practice. Been doing it a while....

I been dragracing a long time. the car in my avatar used to pull 1.23 60ft.
But I cannot get this E to hook. My X5 has gone high 1.6 on factory run flat 20s. But the 18 inch Contis will not bite leaving from a dead stop.
You have a v12 twin turbo, maybe the torque curve is different? My E will spin violently if i roll into it. or if i stomp it. I can power brake it. I can flash the converter, but without drag radials, i do not think it would ever do a 1.7* 60ft
On the dragstrip vid, you have a different wheel in the back. It has a 20 inch radial on it? Non drag radial? if so, it is impressive as hell!

But, now that I know, that you know, what you're doing, I'll elaborate. I've tracked a few 55K cars, and while they are tricky to launch, they're easier than launching my 750lb-ft torque monster. I can't imagine the E63 is harder than a 55K car to launch...
It's really about the basics on the W211s, though. Transmission set to Sport, suspension set to comfort (softest setting), to allow for better weight transfer, and the airmatic raised all the way up, to allow for more suspension travel on launch. Tire pressure down in the 20's.... Don't worry about aerodynamics with the car raised up, it'll lower itself back down at speed. But the real trick is to launch off idle, if you're on street tires, with these cars. You can get away with bringing the revs up just enough to take the slop out, but anything more than that, and you'll either overshoot the converter, or blow the tires off.
But, if you're running at a track that's just not well prepped, or there's a lot of cars running street tires, you just might be out of luck. As you probably know, street tires rip up all of the VHT (track prep sticky stuff), so you may just have to buy a set of drag radials and call it a day. I'm lucky enough to be able to run at one of the best prepped tracks on the East Coast, Maryland International Raceway.
Hope this helps.

Great points. All my test runs were on the street.
The track prep would likely make a big difference in how the lousy contis hook.
I had a M3 that would only 60ft in the 2.0 range on the street and at the track it went into the 1.7 with the same factory radials.
The E63 is for sale, but if it does not sell, I will bring it to Cecil, Etown or Atco and see how it runs. Best MPH on the street was 116.9, with an extra bad 60ft.
On my street test pass I had the settings the same way as you mentioned.
Sport, let it shift by itself-fully raised suspension-softest setting.
I did not drop tire pressure(kind of hard on the street.LOL)
It doesnt help that much on the street
