Sls
Hi All,
Has any one seen the Alu Beam Silver in real life on the SLS?? is it more of a Champagne shade or a silver shade?? The sample provided by the dealer did not do it justice...I have ordered an SLS due in December and spec'ed the Alu Beam, but I am not sure yet wether I should change it or go for the Zircon Red...

I saw two SLS's in France, one was red (looked really nice), I was walking and it drove by, and I caught a good glimpse of it.
The other was harder to get a good glimpse of. I was driving a rented C class diesel, and on a very scenic two lane highway it sped by me in the opposite direction. It was a light - medium silver. Not sure if that's the ALU-Beam or the Iridium, but whatever it was, it looked just about perfect... the HIDs shining towards me, some dark clouds overhead, and this stretch was running just along a small Harbor, the road was about 10 feet away from the water. Just a perfect scene... wish I had my DSLR handy.
Ok this probably wasn't the most helpful post but I wanted to share my experiences with the SLS so far haha!

You can bet with the premium they charge for the paint, it's going to look good. Look good and be a little bit more rare. Go for it!

There is an Alu-beam (or however it is spelled) in Atlanta. It was at the Caffeine and Octane meet a few weeks ago and it is nothing special. In fact, the owner had to point it out. I was pretty surprised given the price for the paint and how M-B has promoted it as being special, but it did not seem to stand out from a 'normal' paint. My wife's M-B is Iridium silver, and the Alu-beam is more grayish than that, but still more silver than gray, without the metal speckling of the Iridium silver.
Note that I saw this car in the morning. It was a beautiful, bright day, but was not in direct sunlight.

The alubeam paint looks good but unless you know about it your not going to noice it . They made a limited edition cl65 with it and it really doesnt look much different. There is less orange peel in the paint so it looks more like glass but for price and potential of having to need it repaired i'd opt out. I have no idea how much or how a bodyshop would be able to duplicate or match this paint if you got a scratch or accident. The matte colors look amazing but just remember you cant ever wax it or rub it too hard when washing or it becomes not so matte. I'd personally go with pearl white or matte green. Get the upgraded stereo its amazing, get the carbon brakes they are amazing and the c/f interior just makes it look like the car is a true exotic. I'd pass on the c/f engine covers because no ones going to see them but if money is no object screw it. Your going to love this car, dont be affraid to drive the crap out of it. Drive it every day and take it to the track, the car can handle it and you wont regret it.

Buzz,
i was going back & fourth on the color as well. to answer ur first question, Alu Beam is more champagne shade than silver shade. i was so in love with all the press pics of the Alu Beam until i saw one in the wild. it looks good under showroom lighting. the ''liquid'' affect pops. however, it looks very dull under overcast weather & very champagne. i certainly did not like what i saw, mainly because of the shade. kinda reminds me of Pewter if u know what i mean. it certainly doesn't worth the extra $12,750.00 USD for the paint job imo. however, if it's like the same shade of silver alu interior trim in the new Porsche such as Panamera & Cayenne, i think it will be so cool. too bad it isn't.
i've seen Mystic White, Obsidian Black, Iridium Silver, Alu Beam & Imola Grey. here's my thoughts:
Mystic White - hard to beat white. but Mystic White is too yellowish. almost looks like faded white.
Obsidian Black - people likes black car. i don't . i think it just hides the line of the car.
Irdium Silver - boring silver & very common. same color can be seen everyday on a C300. but i think it's the best color for the car - silver & red interior = true Gullwing combo, yet, it's free!
Alu Beam - cool idea but wrong shade. certainly not worth the $$$. i wish it's the right shade i would so in love with it. too bad.
Imola Grey - very classic in person. boring grey but i love grey (and silver). i like it & would consider it next to Irdium.
would love to see red. all the pics show the red to be beautiful, but i'm not sure the red fits the car well. probably not my color but it sure makes it look even more exotic.
also the 2 matte grey finishes, although i love the shade of Alanite Grey, but the extra care of the paint just won't work for me.
funny there's no pics around for the Daytona Blue...

as far as carbon interior goes, my friend thought the silver trim looks cheap in the pics until i told him the center console is actually carved from a single piece of aluminum, not some cheap plastic painted piece. it feels solid & different. i think it's more ''special'' in a way than carbon, which is just a regular cf wrap job. gotta see it in person.
