New to MB - looking at used SL55 AMG - thoughts

I have a 2005 SL55 and (knock on wood) its been bullet proof. Just make sure yours has a clean maintenance history and you're not picking up a lemon. Otherwise the repairs can get costly out of warranty.

I don't know if you drove an SL yet, but it's not very sporty compared to a 911. It's more a cruiser than a sports car (at least the year models you are referring to). Be sure to drive before you make a decision.
The 996 Turbo feels completely different (much better) to drive hard in twists and curves etc... But to cruise (also fast) to work or around town the SL55 would probably be more comfortable.
One thing I never liked about Mercedes is that you can't fully disable the traction control. Maybe they changed it in their most recent models, but I don't believe they did.

Maybe not everyone wants to fiddle with the stock car and start messing with the programming, I mean can't be disabled in normal driving, pushing a regular button. Like in a BMW or a Porsche.
Are you serious, no ABS as well? You might as well pull the fuses out of the fuse box every time you want to disable the traction control.

You are wrong, understanding my point.
