Looking to purchase a used 2004 SL55 AMG with 6x,xxx miles.
Any comments of what to look out for? Common problems, etc.
Any other forums with more info?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, there are a lot of them in LA and the price runs $30-40K. Hell of a lot of car for the money (V8 supercharged, hard top vert, beautiful looking) but you take your chances on the repairs -could get very pricey very fast.
None have a warranty and the MB service dealer said it's impossible to buy one as they've been bitten in the past. Most expensive item is the ABC hydraulic unit that controls all suspension and many other things. Motor for ABC is over $20K if I heard right.
I was looking at a used 2009 C4S PDK but those are $80K! For $50K less might just take a chance on one of these and have money left over for a GT3 - haha.
Thanks for all the responses.

and another $20K - hehe for a 2007.
2004 SL55 @ $32k
2007 GT3 @ $70K
Total = $102K
Same as a new C4S cab - maybe.... :-)

I don't know if you drove an SL yet, but it's not very sporty compared to a 911. It's more a cruiser than a sports car (at least the year models you are referring to). Be sure to drive before you make a decision.
The 996 Turbo feels completely different (much better) to drive hard in twists and curves etc... But to cruise (also fast) to work or around town the SL55 would probably be more comfortable.
One thing I never liked about Mercedes is that you can't fully disable the traction control. Maybe they changed it in their most recent models, but I don't believe they did.

Yes, I drove one and it's no 996TT :-)
But, I'm looking for more of a cruiser and a cab this time around. With its hardtop and power and attractive price it fits the bill. Not a corner carver by any stretch but that's okay by me right now.
Thanks

I was asking about this recently and I really did not find any solid review in regards to any one company.... which made me skeptical about them in general... alot of complaints online of companies failing to honor or pay for warranty work.

Thanks - I've been talking to Bruce - he seems to have the inside track on AMG warranties.
