I just picked up a 2012 CLS550 4Matic and was considering the Renntech ECU flash. Has anyone done this and what are your impressions?

The RENNtech ECU Flash is a great upgrade. We have performed 2 of these so far with great results. No loss of daily drivability whatsoever, with excellent power gains. +70HP +80LB-TQ.

Thanks. A few questions:

Are there any temp issues with the increased boost?
Also is the stock exhaust adequate enough not to cause an increase in backpressure?
Lastly, can the AWD drivetrain adequately handle the extra power?

We have had absolutely no issues with increased/problematic temperature

The stock exhaust is adequate enough. We are in the process of developing a cat exhaust system for the 550's and 63's.

There have been no issues with the 4 Matic models.

You will enjoy the upgrade!

Not to thread jack but have you guys done any flashes for w216 (cl600) I'm wanting to do the stage one flash but am curious to hear from people who have done this. I'm worried about the same things that Dr.G is concerned with.

Adamls2,

We have flashed numerous 600 models, and have been extremely happy with them as well.

There are so many advantages to gain from the reflash aside from the brutal power gains. Improved throttle response, power delivery, more linear powerband, and transmission control unit reflash.

The MB transmissions handle the added power without any problems.

I just looked at the Renntech page for my car and I think you are talking about the R1 package that has the ECU TCU and pump upgrade...http://www.renntechmercedes.com/www/node/828
What are the benefits of having he TCU done extra along with the pump upgrade as opposed to the regular ecu flash by itself?? http://www.renntechmercedes.com/www/node/221

Do you have people doing both of these options? Which one is more popular?

adamls2,

Apologies.. RENNtech recently changed their packages and tunes.

The TCU upgrade works seamlessly. Daily drivability is not compromised whatsoever. This upgrade adjusts shift points in comfort and sport mode.

The intercooler pump upgrade flows more than 2x than the OEM pump. This will help with heat soaking issues you might experience once the car heats up. When the engine gets very warm from use or high temperatures... the power becomes "sluggish". Such a large twin turboed motor in a small engine bay.

The R1 Package is great if you are looking for the whole package. Great bang for your buck. If you are not concerned about the the heatsoaking or transmission shift points. Then you would be happy with just the tune for the power gains.

Thanks for the information. The R1 package seems to be the way to go.
