The culprit to your suspension degradation could be twofold, oversized rims andusing the stock shocks with mismatched springs.

Regarding the 1st point...if you went to 18's that can be problematic due to the increased rotational mass. This have been written about extensively on the German AMG board and the stock rims specs are recomended. They go so far as to say that the braking can be seriously handicaped with larger rims.

The second issue is common and is the use of lowering springs with the stock shocks, this is never recomended. Over time the stock shocks will degrade because the stiffer, shorter springs you installed are more than the stockers can handle.

You can either get a set of shocks mached to those springs or get some coilovers. As for the rims, I would stick to the stock specs...maybe even some lightweight SSR's (less weight = better acceleration & handling)
Interesting, as H & R indicated to me the springs WERE matched to the stock shocks. Actually, I weighed the Brabus Monoblock VIs (18 x 8.5 F and 18 x 9.5 r) along with the Pirelli P Zeros they came with and the fronts were within a pound of the stock wheels and tires and the rears were within two pounds, so I don't think this is a contributing factor. Likely as not, H & R sold me a set of springs for the C320 (even though I still have the fax that says they were AMG-specific). At the time, it did not have coilovers available and didn't have an eta either. Oh well, might I ask where you purchased your coilover system and how many miles you have on it? TIA

CayenneS, thanks for the link to c32life. Much appreciated.

I got my coilovers from Evosport along with front and rear sway bars, I think the whole package was under $1,500 shipped. As far as the springs go, any manufacturer is going to say they are "matched" to the stock shocks...it's just not the optimal way to go. I have about 10,000 miles on my set up.

Good luck...

Thanks jasonc32AMG. This is my impatience chicken....coming home to roost as it were, as I was trying to get all this in January/February '02. Thanks again for the info. It looks like I will be headed that way.
