Lowering a CLS500

Hey guys,
What does it take to lower a CLS? I have a shop telling me that it is done "electronically" but this does not make sense to me. Anybody here done it?
TIA.

yes, we carry the lowering modules to lower the car *properly*. See my other thread called CLS pics in this section.

The one I use is from Danish Tuner Kleemann. It lowers the car up to 2" and it rides like stock. If you need more info just PM me

Luis,

There's a way to alter the voltage values for each corner on the Airmatic suspension system through the factory ECU, this is the method you were probably speaking of. It is inexpensive and fairly straightforward.

There are also lowering "modules" which do this for you (and more) but have to be spliced into the factory wiring harness.

the adjustment is on the module itself for fine tuining. All MB with airmatic or ABC have a button inside the car where you can raise it to a preset height. This button still works, only that the height in the std position is lowered.

Without getting too technical, the ECU has voltage values which correlate basically to the ride height at each corner. Each corner's suspension has it's own settings, and you can modify the voltage values for each corner using the STAR Diagnostic Mercedes software. It's a very simple job, but can have some complications as it is not uncommon for the voltage values to be out of factory specification from the factory and need to be overidden. Most qualified MB techs can do this, there is also lots of aftermarket shops capable of doing this as well.

The lowering modules do have their advantages, but they come at a cost and are much more difficult to install.
