Hey guys, i have a good deal on an 03 g55 amg with 60k miles on it.

are these things reliable? I don't want to get a good deal and then have to shell out for other things..

Dont get it, I strongly suggest you to get a 05+ G55 AMG because for 2005 they get the Kompressor on it which is basicly a supercharger which produces 470 hp same as the CLS55 and E55 AMG

I understand all the facts about hp... but i have a deal on an 03.
at this price.. i will lose only about 8g's in 2 years of ownership. But I don't want to have to shell out for big parts.

I know someone who had a 03 G500 and always had problems with it!! I would say that it would be a risky move if u are gonna be banking on the fact that u dont have to spend a lot on fixing it.

For $60k-$70k why not just get something reaaaaally cool like a CPO Cayenne Turbo or a low mileage Range Rover Sport, or CPO MB E55 AMG etcc...

I have around 30k on my 2005 G55k, and have not had any issues with it all.
Getting the squeaks and rattles taken care of that did require 2-3 trips to the dealer, but they got em fixed.
Very sturdy vehicles and very reliable AFAIC.
Good luck,

Bajo

2003 was not a very good year for the G55, close to the 1998 ML's, but not quite. If you are looking for the 2003, I would definately make sure it has the Starmark extended service plan.

If you plan on the Supercharged G55, if you decide to Kleeman it, Kleeman has a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty on parts/labor. I personally have had 2 G55 Kleeman's come in with cracked headers or a hole or two in the catalytic converter's.

Just a fair warning, good luck if you decide to purchase.

Yes, Kleeman, Renntech, and a few others are to Mercedes as Dinan is to Beamer. We do most of our business through Kleeman (performance wise), because we have good relationships with the guys out in Colorado at Kleeman USA. Renntech does make some sweet bumpers, spoilers, etc. But we don't have as much luck with customer relations and overall performance numbers from Renntech.
