Only a true AMG car comes with AMG badges. The CLK430 did come with the AMG body kit and rims from the factory but no AMG badge (I own both a CLK430 and a CLK55 so i know). Only AMG without a 2 digit designation is the CLK DTM.
I bet noone can top this one, I was driving home on the highway and I see a old big body S320. Guess what the badge read? S1000 I pulled up next to him to see if he wanted to put his 10L beast against my lowly s/c 5.4L. Nope, he just slowed down.

Before MBUSA took down it's AMG section it had a FAQ I used to quote that specifically addressed this issue. The question was "should I put AMG badging on my non-AMG Mercedes" - the answer was essentially that only AMG models are true AMG cars and are worthy of the AMG badging. Neither Mercedes or AMG place AMG badges on non-AMG cars, regardless of what sport-package, kit, wheels, or whatever. The wheels may have an AMG badge, but absolutely NO non-AMG Mercedes comes with the AMG badges from the factory. If an owner is taking delivery of a new non-AMG car with AMG badges (regardless of what AMG parts it has) it was added by the dealership, period.
Dave - Good to see another northside AMG fan. I'm on my 3rd E55.

I think AMG should be reserved exclusively for AMG engine cars, it loses certain exclusivity if not. You can def tell the fakers though, and those are people who just have the car for status, not because they are true drivers or car lovers.
