Upgrading Rims on E320
Sorry for the noob question, but I tried searching without any luck.
A friend of mine has a E320 (I beleive an '03). It has 17" rims stock.
He bought a set of 20" AMG rims and had them on last summer. This year, when he took the car in to Mercedes for regular service (with the stock rims on) he was speaking with the service advisor about his summer rims. The advisor told him not to put the 20" rims on his car, because it will destroy his transmission.
I found some info stating that running a staggered setup on a 4matic can damage it, but nothing stating that a regular E320 can be "damaged" with 20" rims.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Nav

...He will be fine.
Whatever the Service Advisor was smoking, he should share.
I deal with PLENTY of customers who have 20" rims on their E320s and E500s and have not had an issue with Transmissions or Transfer Cases (on the 4Matics).
Essentially, it is just increased rolling mass, nothing more.
Be cautious, because with those rubber bands... I mean tires, ONE pothole will blow a tire/bend the rim. I see it ALL too often.
Just make sure he uses the correct lugs and spacers if necessary.
