WTB -CANON 17-40 mm L Lenses

Looking to upgrade my Digital Rebel XT lenses to some nice L glass while keeping within a reasonable price. If anyone has a set of nicely used lenses, please let me know.

Best I foud out there is $ 657 at Abe's of Maine or $ 669/679 at B&H

Any advice on other sources appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Paolo, the 17-40mm f/4L is a great buy in my opinion.

However, if you haven't already I would save-up and get the 70-200mm f/2.8, it really is a MUST HAVE lens for any amateur or professional Canon shooter.

Depends on what you shoot though, I have the f/4l and the 17-40 stays on 95% of the time!

16-35 FTW

BTW, I've been hearing rumors about the Canon Super Rebate deal coming around again so you may want to wait...

Thanks to all. I'll wait re: the possible rebate again.

The 70-200 is on my short list, but it's too big to carry around most of the time IMO. Great for nature shots, safari, etc. But it's at least a couple of pounds and it looks like a bazooka on it. Not practical for close ups of people etc as well. On the other hand, I love the new IS function and its on the radar - I'll buy it in the next couple of years. Going to South Africa for the world cup in a few yrs followed by a safari in Zimbabwe.

There are 3 reasons I really liked the 17-40 (1) Great overall range for everyday use. I've seen some of the pics Felix took - I don't claim to have the same talent by any means, but damn! (2) Low price for decent L glass. The 24-70 and 16-35 are much more $$$ and I'm not a pro (3) It's not very heavy as the 24-70 or 70-200.

thanks again - I'll stay put and look around for summer specials / rebates

thanks again

thanks Ken, but maybe I'm not getting something re: your deal.

If I order from Abe's of Maine I get the lenses shipping included for 654. I don't have to send anything in to get that price. If Canon has a rebate this summer, I would expect to get that as well - albeit in 8 wks like last year when I ordered the XT.

Am I missing something?

............Edit ..............

Actually - CANON just announced it's spring rebates - $50 off of 17-40 L glass - 605, NIB USA Warranty. Shipped at Abesofmaine.com; Adorama will honor it as well

I'm not a dealer but since I'm in the photo business for 20 years, I can get my stuff from the dealer with pretty good price.

Paolo,

I just ordered one of these lenses through Amazon.com. They applied the rebate savings instantly. My final cost was $587.50 incl shipping.
