Berk, I introduce you to your next car. It is the exact same model that is for sale minus the body work that can be easily be added.

hmmmmm, very interesting. My concern is if I pump $$$ in to it to mod it, I'd lose the collectibility factor a bit and maybe take more of a hit.

This isn't fair. Now I want to sell my Cobra to get one of these in the corral. This is just IT!

Oh, and because of this pick I just started my Craigslist search and found this, Berk!

Berk,

Got your text message. No, my yellow car is not a 964. It is a '73 RSR Clone, created basically by combining three cars into one. The body is a '71 (i.e., "early" 911 or "longhood"). The engine is a 3.2 from an '89. And the brakes, steering, some of the suspension and fender flares came from a 930 Turbo. They only made 55 of the real '73 RSR. It was the first production race car. It was my childhood dream car.

The one you posted above appears to be a "73 RS. I am guessing it is also a clone. I can't really tell whether the body is that of an early 911 (i.e., '73 and prior) because many have "backdated" later 911s to look like early 911s.

It looks like the pictures you posted at the start of this thread are 911s of various generations. The common denominator for most seems to be they are wide body. I bought what I bought because I wanted my version of the iconic 911, even if it were just a clone. I wanted something without computers and something light weight. After '73, the 911s kept getting heavier and heavier. My yellow car weighs 2350 lbs. A 964 probably weights 3300; a 997 maybe even more. If you definitely want a Turbo, then they all are wide body. But I have seen very very few early 911s that someone has put a turbo into.

Here's a gratuitous picture of mine.

Al - I hope all is well. Thanks for the clarification. I still droooooooooool for your car, regardless of clone or not, it's absolutely unique and even hotter in person. That's what's great about our passion for Porsche's and cars in general - it brings the kid inside of us all out to play and share in our enjoyment.

I'm thinking of getting a lightweight. Older model 911 next to better appreciate the history. Most likely a clone like yours. I want it to be something I can enjoy and not worry about making it a garage queen too much!!

Looking forward to seeing you soon my friend. Bring the clone out to Starbuck's in Rockville at 10am on may 17Th.

Berk,

Funny how I just finished saying there are probably not many turbo charged early 911s and then I found this. Based on what you just said, and your apparent infatuation with turbos, this would be perfect. I would say if you can get this for around $45K, it's probably a very good buy. If you end up buying this but prefer a ducktail, you can sell me the GT2 wing for use on the track. Al
