Need Boxsters to Autocross
Do any of you local Boxster guys do any autocrossing? I've been running with the Capital Driving Club recently but there are rarely ever any boxsters out there for me to compare my times to. CDC is pretty low key and not very competitive unless you want it to be; I usually bet my buddy a hot dog for fastest time. I'd like to see some more P cars represented out there so if you're interested, check out the website:

The next event is Aug. 29th in Bowie, MD. Hope to see you there.

Teuton - Can you send me info? I have been looking for more autocrossing! i will be there saturday if I can get registered!
I run with PCA Cheaspeake - low key but has great drivers so people are usually pushing their cars.. there is always a few boxters there (the chair has a brand new one and it is usually 1st or 2nd fastest) and its aprox 80% porsches in general. Next is Aug 23

In posted track times, what runs quicker, the Boxster or a BMW Z3m Coupe? I also like the mid mounted Cayman. Looking to get out of the Cobra and into something smaller and quicker for open track. The Exige is a little beyond what I really want to put into a track car over the years.

Pete I'll be away this weekend and the following but will def attend the next event with you!
Berk why don't you attend with your Boxster?
Scott the person that I bought this Exige from modified everything in terms of Suspension and was going to go full blown track car - however talking to the care takers for this car he got a fright when he recieved a quote for installing a cage etc so decided to go for a spec Miata....
There's a guy with a stripped out MK1 Miata and he loves autoxing it, might be worth going down that road?

Registration to the BMW CCA event this Saturday. I'm going to try and make it. I have a ton of work to do this weekend as this is my busiest time of the year. If I go, I'll probably only stay for half the day and then head back to work.

Mick - I might do that. Right now, my Boxster sits at my parent's house in NJ collecting dust under a cover in their garage b/c of limited garage space right now. It's an 01 Boxster w/ only 30K miles on it. Hahahahaha.
4 cars for 2 people down here is a bit much (3 cars in VA now), but w/ the little boy coming in a month, may just bring Little Baby Blue back down to start doing track events.
I've done 4 HPDE's with the Boxster 4 years ago at Summit (love Summit Main and Hate Shenandoah), but never autocrossed. The Boxster chassis is GREAT for this stuff. I was keeping up with 911's (even TT's) on the corners all day, then obviously would get spent on the straights. I'm willing to try AX'ing however. Boxster would be best fit for that IMO vs my heavy C4S. I've got limited time in the near future for the season to bring the 4th car down with my son coming soon, but may bring it when I go to NJ next time w/ family.

I'd really like to find out what this car is capable of ESP after the endless list of mods.
Going round the off-ramp at crazy speeds far beyond what my M3/996 was ever capable of tells me this car is on a whole new level.
Let's setup something!

@ Exlondoner: At the limited autocrosses I've been to, the Elises demolish the competition, and those are relatively stock, non-supercharged, and only having the advantage of R-comps. You can probably putz around the course faster than my boxster driving ***** out haha.

While the venue of the FedEx is fantastic, I'm not a fan of their atmosphere (Strict doesn't even begin to describe it). Granted they have to be with the amount of cars they run a day but, I prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. I used to run their series a few years ago and found it not all that welcoming nor enjoyable to stand out all day long to wait for your afternoon runs.
Their classing also leaves much to be desired as they have a nasty tendency to penalize higher end cars (Since Mazda supports the SCCA you can figure out where their focus is). Take SS for example where a 996 C2 goes up against C5 Z06's, GT3 and Lotus all grouped together. BMW is also not well classed as well.
There's no arguing that their courses tend to be the fastest and longest as Fed Ex is probably the best venue in the area but is it worth it? You be the judge.

I agree with you 100%, my lowly C2 was up against ZO6s and GT3 wearing Hoosiers.. I had no chance... now my 6TT is not even cosidered stock (even though it is stock) so I got bumper into ASP, I have to race against fully prepped race cars
