Speeding Ticket (Lexington area)
Hello,
Please don't ask me details unless really needed. I am just shocked...
Female, 49, going 98 on 65 (I-81). Summon to Lexington, VA (Rockbridge County)
What's the consequence and I am guessing the lawyer is must. Can I get some advices on this...I really appreciate in advance. Thanks.

I have never gotten a ticket in VA, but I got a similar ticket outside of ATL. I had to get a lawyer because I was facing 1 year in prison, 1 year suspended license, and a $1250 fine. Different state, I know, but I would not be suprised if you did not have to get counsel to help you through this.

i definitely need a lawyer as this is reckless (if 20 mph or over). is there also a jail time and license suspension for this?

Was this a speed trap?
Good luck

Is your arraignment on the 25th or is that your actual trial date? If it is your trial date you need to find a lawyer ASAP. How is your driving record? If it is clean you will need to provide that at the trial. Start taking driving courses. They are available online and you can find them on the DMV website. Lawyers are going to cost anywhere from $1k to $4k and that should be a flat rate fee. Chances are you are looking at a suspended license and a pretty hefty fine. When you get a chance try calling lawyers and get some advice from them. Try to find a lawyer that is local to that area and is a former prosecutor.

Virginia has a zero tolerance show of force on most of the major interstates right now and most counties are pushing for suspended licenses and jail time. I can't tell you "WHO" to get as a lawyer, but you must get GOOD legal council. In some counties, the rule is "one day in jail for every mile over the limit."
Quite honestly I'm surprised that they just "wrote you a ticket".
Virginia is probably as strict as they get when it comes to speeding, especially in this day and age.

So who was pulled over? Was it you? How were you or this person pulled over? I have heard good and bad things about Bose. Your best bet is to call around and see what you can get. All of these lawyers offer free consultation. Like I said before your best bet is to find a lawyer local to that area who knows the prosecutor or judge.

Since my ticket was in the metro ATL area, I went to Buckhead to get a lawyer. He was reasonable, ($750!) and delayed the trial for a whole year. When we finally went to court, he negotiated 19 miles over the speed limit, no jail time, no suspended license, and a $300 fine! The court did require that I take a driver's ed course before they did the deal.
I would say that if you are prepared the throw some money at this situation, it should likely have a reasonable outcome. With counsel, you will be able to delay that case to allow you to see all your options, but you must act ASAP. Good luck!!

The two dates i have are in January and in February. According to Bose firm (only firm I've talked to so far), told me that by January, I need to either be there or hire an attorney that I will be trialed on the February date.
I will do anything to get her out regardless of how much it costs. I am very interested in delaying the case (not sure if this is a good idea).
I will also be doing odometer calibration (Infiniti)...

I was clocked at 98 in a 65. It was also in a work zone. There was no actual work going on, but the signs were still up. The 19 and under was negotiated by my lawyer. Honestly, I was going much faster than he clocked me at, but I slowed down when I saw an overpass. That turned out to be a good thing because he was sitting right on the other side of the overpass on the on ramp.
My lawyer did not request the Lidar calibration records, nor did he advise me to get my odometer calibrated. His ploy was to prolong it long enough to get the ticket transferred to a General Sessions Court. Moving it away from Magistrates Court did wonders for downplaying the severity of the ticket. After all, my traffic ticket looked rather bland compared to some of the charges that the guys in the orange jumpsuits were facing that day.

how did you go about moving the trial? did you move the trial to 1 year straight or multiples of, say 3 months?
you are more than welcome to PM me if you dont want to announce it in public.
this is going to be an expensive lesson for her...

I had a minor speeding ticket outside of Richmond a few years back. I took the online driving course prior to going to court thinking that that would be enough to get out of it. The judge considered the online course a joke and would only consider it if you took the classroom course. It's inconvenient, sure, but it might help.
