Get a lawyer, there's a possibility of jail time, but doubtful at that speed, but why chance it. I had a 108 in a 65 in Richmond, being in the military and hiring a lawyer is the only thing that kept me out of the slammer, and I still got my driving privileges suspended for 6 months.
Save the speeding for Marland, can't go to jail for speeding in MD.

Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia... so's speeding a small piece of enlightenment given to me by my old boss.

No, in Maryland its a 5 pt. / $500 ticket. No different than any other ticket. Albeit, every officer in the area got called out. Doh! Simply written up politely, signed ticket and then on my way.

in VA you woulda been thrown in the slammer right on the spot and had the car towed away...what lambo was it anyway...murci, gallardo? VA is rediculous with traffic voilations, they treat them like REAL crimes which can carry jailtime

Dunno where that is.. but, I say.. just antie up.
Its hard to argue not going the speed in the cars (high end) we drive.
Especially when you got nailed.. for speeding.

Other wise I would contest it.. (plead not gulity).. show up for court..
hopefully the cop doesnt show up and it gets thrown out.

Its hard to argue.

Best of Luck!!!

TIP: If you have a covered license tag.. (smoke colored) or any covering on
South Beach.. (A1A)... YOU WILL get a ticket for an "OBSCURED TAG"

It was an 08' murci coupe. Only busted up to 115 mph apparently for a few seconds too. Sucks.

Damn I don't care about the $$$ you gotta pay to play sometimes but there are some real crimes out there these road tax collectors should be working on instead. Speeding should never result in jail anything - and **** if you don't run 80+ on parts of 66 you won't even keep up with the commute.

Thinking about getting a lawyer to get it down to just a minor speeding ticket.

Any advice or experience on this would be most appreciated!!

I received a ticket for 125mph in a 55mph zone on RT66 by a Virginia State Trooper. This was 13 years ago, at 2am in the morning. Loss of license for one year, apeals court, suspended for 6 months. Here comes the killer-court required SR22 high risk auto insurance for 3 years $$$$$$$$$. Get a lawyer!!!

Tip on the sr22, back in idaho you had to file that, yes, BUT.... You only had to file it on one car or one policy. I knew a guy who bought a scooter for $50 just to file the sr22 on it and left his other policy alone.

Not sure if it would still work but would be worth the effort.

VA is crazy....just don't speed there, ever. In fact waive at the cops as you pass by them in a sports car doing speed limit...it ticks them off ... I haven't lived in VA since college and after that up in Tysons Corner/McLean until '05....MD is much more chill with traffic violations ..

I agree these cops should be doing real work and locking up drug dealers, murderers, rapists etc...instead of praying on good tax paying folk....now try saying that to the judge in a VA courtroom!!!

Im guessing it was a state trooper that got you. What county does this fall in on? If it is Fairfax county I have a great attorney who used to be a prosecutor for the commonwealth...

Baby sis got written on the Dulles Airport Access road in Jan for 79 in a 55. NY license.

1) We took the defensive driving course at "A Safe Driver" on S. Washington St. in Falls Church.

2) She then took the Aggressive / Reckless class the day later.

3) She got her speedo calibrated.

4) She got a lawyer.

Court is in April, I will update you with her results.

I won't go into my past but MD is certainly more lenient than VA, 137 in a 55 about 8 years ago and no jail time kind of lenient.

Hey lakhoon,

Spoke with some of the guy's on the department in the county where I work, and they told me that if it was not in Fairfax, you are probably not looking at any jail time or extreme sentencing. If it's Fairfax County they explained to me that the 20mph over the posted speed limit is reckless, and every mph over that twenty can earn a person one day in jail.

I hope you already have secured legal rep, and I hate to see this kind of thing happen to anyone. Good luck, and hope all goes well.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good lawyer for legal rep regarding a speeding ticket? It was for 20 over in VA but was not charged as reckless (46.2-878 instead). Really appreciate the help!
