What do Virginia people do for Radar Detectors?

I have lived in Va all my life and know how unforgiving it can be if you like nice cars and driving fast. I am ready to pull the trigger on a valentine 1 system and am just wondering what other Va 6 speeders use? I figure i would rather risk running radar and possibly avoiding a speeding ticket. Can I get a ticket or get in trouble for running radar? Whats the best way to conceal it? Any better recommendations than a V1?

Well you can definitely get in trouble since its illegal. I believe they used to take them if you were caught with one in operation. I have a passport escort 8500, but I don't think I've used it in years. I know that some people "hardwire" the escort so you don't have the huge coil cord hanging around in your cabin.

they use radar detector detectors so you'll want to purchase one of the few models that are immune to them. V1 is not one of them.

Keep in mind that of you get stopped with a RD operating, don't try to dismount/hide it.

That is an additional, fairly stiff charge.

Some cop cars have radar detector detectors.

I had a V1 and never used it because it was detectable. I recently got a beltronics sti driver which is undetectable and got it hardwired. Virginia Sucks.

You guys are funny. Read this:http://blog.motorists.org/radar-dete...orrying-about/

I run only V-1s in all of my cars and have been for the last 11 years in VA. Never been detected.

STi Driver. It's the only choice if you don't want to get caught. You should also consider laser jammers. Go to radardetector.net to learn more. Those people are hobbyists and know more on the subject than anyone here.

PS: I don't live in VA, but I drive through regularly and I never turn off my radar detectors.

My installer also said the detector-detector thing in BS. I've yet to hear from someone who's got busted with one; and if you do the fine is minimal and they don't confiscate anymore.

What does your installer want to install? I think the STi is mostly geared toward truckers. But, it's a good unit so why risk things?

He installs what I bring him. He was just offering his opinion based on a) being an installer 2) having cop friends and 3) living in VA.

Did you watch my videos?

Bell STI -

I have been right next to and behind cops (I have tint on top of my windshield).... with my STI

They cant pick me up because of the thick gauge magnesium shielding of the Bell, no leakage at all... it is great (and made for) VA.

Cops can still nail you on laser tho, however the STI picks up scatter pretty good on the car in front of you.

I've got an sr1, use it sparingly. Most times old school situational awareness beats all passive counter measures.

+1 on laser jammers

Most state and county officers are using LIDAR guns now. I had integrated front and rear laser jammers in my M5 and I got pulled over once for actually jamming a cop. He was so pissed that my car jammed him (I was too slow in disabling the jamming) but in the end it was just a $40 ticket. The net result was a confirmation that the jammers work! And $40 is way less than the price of an actual speeding ticket + potential insurance hike.

Not Loudoun local, except on 28... I would love to invest in a jammer
