EDIT: let me just make it clear that i disclosed the previous accident to the dealer and they didn't resell it on their lot.

he's right and wrong. it's the independent dealer/shop/bodyshop/mechanic that reports to carfax. not insurance. i had a car that i was rearended in and it had $6,000 of damage done do it. repaired top notch but never was reported to carfax by the bodyshop. i traded the car in on something else 6 months later. any good dealer/ppi will know what to look for and will know it had work done... but 99% of consumers/private party buyers won't. so long story short: it depends on the body shop.

^^^^nice, exactly why I won't buy a car from a private seller or reputable dealer.
St4rk, really sorry about this man. It is bull****!!! Which garage was it? Did you park it overnight? I've heard of cars being stolen out of Reston garages as well.
Oh, we are permitted to conceal carry in the commonwealth of VA. :-) we love the NRA and their HQ in Fairfax, VA.

I was surprised that there were no other cars damaged. Usually acts of mischief are widespread and random. This looks to be a targeted incident especially by the extent of the damage. I'm sure this has crossed your mind.

I just don't get people. So freaking jealous they have to act like d---s! It's why I don't drive my car half the time...I am sorry to hear that OP. That's total bull...time to do a police call, file insurance, car in shop, cost to repair, etc. It's total crap. I'm with everyone else..catch him and put the beat down on him!

That's such an unnecessary thing to deal with, the lack of effort and dedication to wasted time on the vandal's part is a testament to their lack of intellect and motivation to accomplish something worthwhile in their own lives. It's unfortunate they had to burden you with their incompetencies.
I agree with letting insurance foot the bill. Unfortunately the cost of doing the job correctly so someone isn't able to pick the car apart later on is going to be high enough to make paying out of pocket unrealistic. Whatever hit you could take on resale won't be any worse than the out of pocket cost to have the whole car re-sprayed. You also don't want to try and save a buck and have a so-so body shop do the work because that will bite you down the road also.
I wouldn't pay $10k (approx.) now to save $5-10k when I want to sell the car later. The resale on these cars don't hold strong enough to justify it, IMO.
