My Maserati has been keyed
Over the weekend a delightful individual decided it would be a great idea to key a Maserati all the way around. Judging by the scratch, it might have been a teenager, their sissy little arms were unable to completely penetrate the paint all the way to the metal. I mean if you're going to key an Italian exotic, go all out! Dig that key deep into the paint and let her rip. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a solid 4. I definitely could have done more destruction given the chance.
I had plans to sell it by winter, looks like that ain't happening. I fathom it will cost 7000 - 10000 to repaint. Not sure what I do next, do I even bother to file a police report? Do I even bother with insurance? They just reduced my rate like 90 bucks a month, it's only going to go back up because of this.
Reason #39 of why I don't own a gun, had I caught them you'd be reading a police report about me. Don't worry I wouldn't shoot to kill - just severe impairment for the rest of their natural miserable life.

dealing with insurance is 100% your call. it could very well cost more than what you estimate. not to mention this repaint just screwed your resale value by 10%-15% not to pour salt in the wound... but yeah. i'm sorry man.

Damn, dude. That sucks.
I'd paint without insurance claim..., might pay itself off when it is time for resale.
If you don't feel like paying out of pocket, go with insurance (that's what it is for, right?).

Wow, that's really pathetic on their part. I've never been able to wrap my head around messing with someones car... Maybe it's because I'm a "car guy"?
Did this happen at your home? Reason #39 to have video cameras w/ recordings.

Happened at a parking garage in Reston, which is patrolled by guards quite frequently (too bad they aren't guards with frickin' lazer beams attached to their heads).
Anyways, here's the damage, I don't recommend eating or viewing the pics if you have a heart condition:

This is the reason I live in Texas. Concealed handgun Lic. + Glock 21= Appropriate anti-key justice device. And here in Texas you'll never find a jury of your peers smart enough to convict. There will always be reasonable doubt!!

Sorry to see and hear that.... I would go with insurance. It's what you pay for, so now it's time for it to pay itself off. Don't worry about the resale issue right now... You will be able to explain why it was repainted and show proof that it was comprehensive and not collision.

Hahah fraggle.
I just got back from moving it out of that garage. I had just filed a report earlier with the security guards. Guy on the phone was a real dick, constantly giving me **** about how it's public property and I can't park there and he'll have it towed now.
Anyways, when I got there to move it there were two guards taking pics and whatnot. They turned out to be really cool and let me know that the guy that answered the phone was a ****** and basically couldn't do anything "his fat *** ain't gonna tow ****" was their exact words, and not to worry. I moved it anyways, you never know.
They said no other reports had happened. There are several other nice cars that park there all the time, I see them everytime I pull in for the past 2 years (panamera, black m6, orange lotus, white amg sl500). I will probably print out a bunch of papers with a warning and stick them on the wipers.
The guards said if the night patrol had caught them they would have gave them a beatdown, since they've seen my car all the time and really liked it. I filed a police report online.

Good luck. When you file for insurance claim, include the police report and all the info you can. Helps if you know your agent and they'll work FOR you to some extent. If you've got some internet gecko policy you get that kind of service. If you've got a good agent you've stuck with you're more likely to make the claim, get it fixed and move on.
Good luck!

I am not sure what's holding you back from spending couple hundred dollars for potential 5 digit repair. It's a different story if you have been using a good amount of money or frequently used from your insurance.
I was in a similar situation where I ended up paying ~$1,000 instead of going through the insurance (to save for the worst if happens). Thankfully, it hasn't happened for past 6 years.
Bottom line, I'd go through the insurance if I was you and possibly, consult your agent/rep regarding "side effects." I never dealt with insurance reps so I have no idea how knowledgeable they are but it's worth a try. Good luck!
