What shop to have clutch/ims done at?
Hi guys,
Title says it all essentially. I have purchased my Sachs clutch kit and need to get a shop to put it in along with IMS/RMS...
What are the recommendations? I have seen Boochook recommends Foreign Affairs, however I am just a tad bit worried it wont make it all the way down there
Thanks in advance!
Happy Holidays!

Intersport in McLean for sure. Omar and Charlie will take care of you Paul. Foreign Affairs is good but a hike to Staunton, VA near Charlottesville bud. Lemme know and I can personally introduce you.

2nd Intersport... assume you're talking about 911..... Charlie could do that job with his eyes closed, and the prices are fair, and they are straight-up honest guys and won't try to sell you a bunch of ****izzle u don't need or want.
I also like and have faith in Ivan at IMA Motorsports in Chantilly for a job like that

Behe performance in Sykesville does good work on Porsche... There are some other Pcar shops in airpark in Gaithersburg who are PCA sponsors who seem to have good reputations. Looks like inersport and ima are the big shops in va. So you def have a bunch of options... A lot of guys also swear by asg over in merryfield VA...they specialize in porsches as well. Good luck bud, tell us whom you choose and how it goes...

Thanks so much. It seems as Intersport will be the place I will be giving a call. I actually had found your old thread about Foreign Affairs, and gave them a call, they were great guys to talk to however, to be honest, I am scared I won't make it up there, and then also it would be quite inconvenient to drop off come back to Gaithersburg, then pick up etc...
Thanks a bunch as always!
Hope all are having a fantastic holiday time!

There are, you are correct. However, the ones that I know of are Autotherapy... which is.. to be honest.. eh (I suppose you know what I mean) Also, there is Airpark Auto Service (these guys are incredible! I have taken all our family cars to them - Audi's, Porsche's, Mercedese's however, they have not done an IMS change (neither have Foreign Affairs) and would want for me to buy the tool - yet, which I would have no further use for, and being on a college budget, the $140 is money
Thanks for advice as always

That sounds like a plan! We shall definitely do so... My father is in town until January 3rd (from Afghanistan) so I will be a bit occupied until then, however after, anytime that works for you. I shall PM you.
Thank you,
Paul

Guys,
Would like to give a bit more of an update!
So! today 02/07/2012 I have my clutch, IMS, RMS all done. I spent a good day last week calling around different shops all of which were recommended on here to me, some which I had found by myself and getting quotes. As I might of previously mentioned, money is of course an issue for this service - for me being who I am at the moment - full time student.
With that said, I had a great time and learned a lot by speaking to all the intelligent minds out there on the topic. I talked to shops that told me they will straight up not do IMS bearings as they are not sure and don't believe in LN Engineering as they HAVE had failures themselves, some shops we took the time to discuss on whether it should be done or not and evaluated all the alternatives, some shops told me straight up to do it.
Anyhow, I decided to go ahead with At Speed Motorsports down in Hanover, MD. The guys were $300 below all other estimates on full clutch works. I talked to Matt on the phone who is part of the service deparment and we discussed all the things that will need to be done to the car. We discussed all the price quotes, parts, etc. I scheduled an appointment for Yesterday (Tuesday) to bring the car in. I dropped off the vehicle late Monday evening around 5:00pm right before the doors were closing and talked to Bob who is quite a porsche fanatic, racer, car builder.. etc. Bob was the president and owner of At Speed Motorsports. He gave me a full tour of their facility highlights of which were 3 Porsche Factory race cars 964, 993, and 997. Also had some other interesting cars in the shop like a 2001 Cobra R with 540 original miles on it, Supercharged Viper, some older fully restored porsches, vw's, Volvo race car, much much more. The shop was absolutely THE CLEANEST SHOP I HAVE EVER SEEN! the showroom was like a dealership - needless to say I was absolutely blown away.... I was introduced to a few techs including a master tech that was at the time working on rebuilding a V10 M5 engine which blew out. I was explained about their alignment machine which is state of the art, shock dyno, and much of the other equipment of the shop. The owner is good friends with Steve Dinan and are US #1 DINAN dealer, as well as #5 dealer in the world.
All in all, incredible experience at drop off. I left the car with them 5:00pm Monday Night and as I had discussed with Matt, it would probably be done Wednesday by the end of the day. Today (Tuesday) I got a call from Matt in the morning (around 11am) giving me an update that the tranny is out of the car and they are working and are on track to finish by close of business tonight! WOW!... Also the guys have the LN IMS bearings in stock as well as RMS's and all. SO all was taken apart, put together with a new sachs kit (which I provided), LN IMS, RMS, test driven, and ready for me to pick up at 5pm today!
Also, upon my pickup today, the guys explained everything about my old clutch to me - everything they took out was walked through with me including the IMS bearing.
Amazing experience! will definitely be back to At Speed Motorsports! Thank you Bob, Matt (service) and Matt (tech).
