Fair Lakes, 06/24/12: People!
Please allow me to recount something that happened at this event today. While the people involved are specifically Lotus enthusiasts, as well as general car guys, I think this will resonate with the larger group of Fair Lakes attendees:
Often, Cars & Coffee is all about the cars. But sometimes... it's all about the people.
This morning, by absolute chance, two old-school Lotus guys, who hadn't seen each other for 33 years, ran into each other looking at my Elise. I was happy to provide a chance meeting place for these two long-time Lotus enthusiasts. I had run into Glenn Davis, one of the original Lotus LTD members in the DC area, well over a year ago at the Katie's Cars & Coffee in Great Falls. He shows up at Great Falls regularly, to see the Lotus and other interesting cars there. Someone must have told Glenn about the Fair Lakes event many of us attend Sunday mornings, from about 8:00AM - 10:30AM. Today was his first time at Fair Lakes, and he brought his father, Tommy. When Glenn walked by with his father, I was already talking to Charlie Stancil about his history with the marque. Charlie used to autocross a Europa, and I used to own one, as well. Charlie was another founding member of Lotus LTD in the DC area. I was talking to Charlie, saying I wish I could put him in touch with someone I was sure he'd know (I was thinking of Glenn, but could not think of his name, for the life of me) - when Glenn and his father came up to us. They spent time catching up, and thanks to Jamie from Euro Motorcars Lotus, were able to look at the very latest model, an Evora S, also there today.
I have to say, I love the cars at these events. But what I really remember is the people... even if I can't always remember names.

I include some other 'people' pictures from today - Bob S. perusing the Evora sticker price, Bev, Debbie & Jordan providing the woman's viewpoint, and Dan S. leaving the lot...

Fair Lakes, 06/24/12 - Part 2
...But, don't think this was just an event with a couple of Lotus...
We regularly have lots of people, and lots of different vehicles...

Fair Lakes, 07/01/12
After the massive storms Friday night, several traffic lights were still out in the Northern Virginia area, though most roads have been cleared of major trees and debris. However, this morning was HOT and HUMID. Despite that, a really good group of cars & car people still showed up.
I met Tarek today - he's up from Florida, working in Baltimore. He brought his CO Elise.
Brothers Dino and Jerry arrived in the Viper and the new (624hp) GT 350.

Fair Lakes, 07/15/12
An overcast morning, but it cleared up, and we had a good showing.
I swear, the guy that parked his black Jaguar XK next to me was trying to torment me - I LOVE those cars!
