heard about this. Such a shame and glad the owner wasn't hurt, or didn't hurt anyone else.
As for what happened, it appears that it was driver error. After reading the Jalopnik article, this is what an eyewitness claims:

I saw the wreck. Basically the driver was in the 2nd lane. At first I didn't see him but I heard him accelerate. He passed behind a car in the third lane and into the left lane very fast, like a slingshot move. I was driving probably 65-70 so he was going 80+. I didn't see the whole thing but appears that either the left lane or more likely, the shoulder had a large orange traffic drum. He wasn't in the left lane long before it appears as though he plowed right into the drum, popped up in the air and plopped down upside down on the jersey wall.

well i haven't been back to the area in a while. my parents live in tysons and i know there's always a lot of construction going on around there. i've seen construction debris left near the lanes before.

The moral of the story is simply don't F with VA, be it construction, bollards cast onto the left lane, road construction debris, **** traffic cops, sneaky speed traps, unmarked cop cars etc...save your speeding and shennanigans, for a safer place if you must do them at all
