Most of these pics are not mine but I figured I'd share since I know most of you didn't go down for this event.

The silver 993 is pretty badass. Why the sunroof on a GT? What's the story on that car? It has RS flairs (*very nice), GT tail and front facia, 993 GT peieces, but the 993 GT never came to the States. Helio with the yellow one from Katies has one of the most accurate replicas of the 993 GT, I don't know that they had a street legal version of the GT2 in the 993 chassis, I think the GT was the road going version for Europe based on the race car which was designated GT2.

I don't know if that one's a real GT2 or not. Most likely it's just got some GT2 parts on it.

The 993-generation GT2 was initially built in order to meet homologation requirements for motorsports. Because the cars were built to meet the GT2 class regulations, the road cars were named accordingly. The 993 GT2 featured widened plastic fenders and a larger rear wing with air scoops in the struts. The 993 GT2's original 3.6 L (220 cu in) engine developed 320.8 kW (430 hp); in 1998 it was upgraded to 335.7 kW (450 hp). Fifty-seven road cars were built (seven of which were right-hand drive).
To qualify the car for racing a limited number of street GT2s were created for homologation purposes, which are now highly prized and valued by Porsche 993 collectors. The interior treatment of the GT2 is similar to that of the sibling Carrera RS. On the exterior, the fenders of the Turbo have been cut back and replaced with bolt-on plastic pieces in order to accommodate large racing tires and to help ease the repairs of damage to the fenders that are an often reoccurring event in auto racing.

Until 1997, the street GT2 had almost the same engine as the Turbo, but operated with higher boost pressure and delivering 430bhp. In model year 1998 it was raised to 450bhp and a twin ignition was added.

The many racing variants have different engine set-ups depending on the applicable racing series. By 1996 the factory-quoted power rating was 465 bhp at 5,700 rpm and torque of 670 Nm at 5,000 rpm. Power output came as high as 600 bhp (450 kW) in an "Evo" version designed for the GT1-series, which was ultimately replaced by the mid-engine 911 GT1.

Additionally, the rear deck lid of an original GT2 will also sport "911 GT" instead of "911 GT2".

^^^ I think you're right the 993 GT2 was a homolation varied with very low build numbers for the GT2 class racing over in Europe, which is why the cars never came States side. They are one of the most sought after Porsches and they have teh script 911 GT on the decklid just under the whale tail.

Ussually if you see a real 993 GT2 it's in a collection somewhere perhaps sandwiched between a 959 and a 917 longtail. They are very special cars. The guy at H20 did a nice job with making a replica, his car looks sweet!

Not sure what engine mods it has but I know this is not an asthetics-only car. Also check out the seats on the inside.

They look like Carrera GT replica seats by ROTec. Very common mod in the Pcar world for 911 enthusiasts. Do you have a pic of the engine? Do you recall the size of the top mounted cooler he may have had? on 993 the IC sits just under the wale tail decklid.

Hence why I said right at the top of my post that most of those were not my pics...

It was posted on VW Vortex by jgartland.
