997 TT vs GTR drag race: from a roll
#31
I was intrigued by this video to locate the truth of 997 Turbo vs GTR. Respectively I found out that in most magazine tests their way of calculating 1/4 mile times is all different. Some rely on drift boxes, some rely on actual track systems, and some rely on that G tech. Basically not many of these systems work exactly. Also to measure HP they use GTECH, mustang, or dynojet readings to calculate hp.
Basically their calculations will vary. So, with that being said the way I like to find out the truth of what car is faster is find out through actual production models. There are videos like M5board.com which provide excellent examples.
But also I looked into the Best Motoring videos. I found it weird they compared the 6 spd manual from as roll vs the GTR from a roll, then the Tip vs the GTR from a dig. I found it weird they did this.
So I located a video of them at the Motegi track which uses a long straight. Twice on the front and other straight the Turbo pulled away with much ease. So there is some "ringers" going on out there in some tests.
That whole Nissan saying they hand built those engines is the reason for their cars being ringers. Then they obviously cannot build a consistent proper engine. Ferrari's all seem to be well built and consistent, 911 Turbos and GT3's seem to be consistent and not "ringers".
It's a huge game between competition. Chevy seems to do it, Nissan, and from speculations even Ferrari has done it. But the fact still remains the best cars ever built come from European countries.

Just remember, this car just came out, there will be alot of aftermarket out there to make it fast. I don't think it will be as fast as the Supras, but still fun on the street. Eventhough it's one of the slowest cars I own, I will not go to crazy with power mods. It's just too nice to drive like it is..

Most of the major magazines in the USA use a Racelogic VBox, which is a GPS based device, to calculate their performance data, it is very accurate.
The main differences between magazines is in how they do weather corrections and whether or not they calculate roll out into the equation

crazy arguments here but in the end does it really matter? Both of the cars are awsome. My main problem (and I dont own either of course) is that you can NOT get a regualr 6 speed manual on the GT-R. I am sure the transmission is great and so is the DKG M3 I sold and driven at the track but I need a 3rd pedal. This is why I could never own a GT-R. Even if the stick is slower I DONT CARE. Call me crazy but this is very important to me if I was to buy either car. For the money the GT-R is a marvel. I also think it is beautifull (unlike so may others) but like I said I need a clutch. One of the only cars I would not have a problem without a clutch is the F430 Scud and Enzo. That also may be the only ones. I will not be owning any of those anytime soon so it does not really matter what I think for now.

i've owned several high HP sports car and never had to sign a waiver before purchasing it... thats just crazy, you can't even dyno the damn car lol.
ill stick to a turbo!

That would as conclusive as modded GT-R against a stock Porsche.
Mine is too.
It's a notification that you were told things so there is no misunderstanding.
I'm assuming that had you actually looked into it more than what you see on the interwebz, that you would be more knowledgable. But I don't believe you are, so I'm not going to waste any more time helping your non-decision.

I predict the GT-R will be short lived. Not because it is not a great car, it is. Nissan is losing money on every GT-R it sells. The business model for GT-R’s is not self sustaining like Porsche’s 911 which has been around for 40+ years. It makes them money.

Because that would show......... What exactly? A modded car against a stock GT-R?

You are too funny. You are now responding to a post I made over a year ago? You must have been bored beacuse the 997tt vs. GTR debate has died out. You are digging up old threads to try and rekindle the fire? Put it to rest my friend. I really don't care how fast a GTR is anymore.

Can't beat regular old vanilla IMHO.

It has not died out competely... There is another article that just came out in Europe that places the GT-R way ahead of both the 911 and R8 (in both performance and value).
