GTR - first sighting - WOW...but..
Stopped by the dealership today and saw the GTR for the first time. I was floored by how nice the car looks. MUCH better in person vs. pics and I already thought the pics looked great! Dealer had one in charcoal and one in white. The white looked stunning with the contrasting ground effects. All this excitement without even cranking them up or test driving!
Few other thoughts/notes:
1. Dealer said these were the only 2 on the west coast. I laughed, since two other local dealers have them in stock.
2. Dealer wants 103K...but are willing to deal. Nowhere near MSRP though. Seems like prices are around 75-85k?
3. Dealers said cost will go up 15k next year, so I should buy now. I thought it was only a 10k hike?
4. Then I asked him about the transmission warranty issue that's been discussed thoroughly on this forum (and many others) and he had no clue. He assured me that Nissan would DEFINITELY cover anything like that. Since he didn't know what LC was, I figured the conversation was useless and stopped pressing.
I'm coming from a 997S and I'm curious about 2 things:
1. Anybody here move from a 997S to a GTR and have input?
2. Given all the transmission concerns, what is the general opinion about buying this car new right now? Don't do it - wait another year? Or since, in my case, I'd never use LC, it's not really an issue? A part of me would like to see what that feels like, but realistically - i know i'd never really use it.
Anyway, kudos to all GTR owners - the car is stellar and truly one of a kind. Appreciate any input on my notes/questions above as I try to make a decision here.
Thanks!

what's the point of having LC though if it destroys your transmission? just a novelty?
i did read in a separate forum that they are building aftermarket fixes (possibly entirely new transmissions) so the LC can be used. but that will obviously void warranty
since i won't use LC at all, not really an issue for me? the transmission is weak, yes, but weak for 100% non-LC driving?

I had a 02 996 turbo, then I got the GT-R. I love it! I havent looked back.
this LC issue is a non-issue for me. The tranny is fantastic! I feel its very responsive and handles the power of the car fine. NO issues so far. And I feel Nissan will back up the warranty, because if I do have tranny problems they will be able to tell I wasn't "abusive" and that I tried to purposely break the car launching it in LC numerous times.
YES, I will track the car next Spring too.
If you can get the GT-R at MSRP, jump on it! dont wait!

Some dealers are so clueless.
Transmission shouldn't be a problem unless you launch the car. I would say jump on it, especially if it's MSRP or close. Don't wait on the new cars, there is not reason to.

Just spent the better half of the evening reading up numerous threads on the LC subject. Seems opinions run the full spectrum and there really isn't a clear answer.
Guess it's just a personal preference. I would never launch it, so as long as I buy new, shouldn't have any issues, I guess. Maybe it's still to early to tell, but at 72k (i thought that's what the sticker MSRP said, but seeing higher MSRPs), without ever using LC, still seems like a helluva car.

It is one helluva car. If you can buy close to MSRP, go for it. You won't regret. I've had mine for a few months and will never launch it... it's damn good as is. It isn't a Porsche turbo or a Z06, but it's different, video-gamish, corners like a **** and pretty fast.... plus the tranny shifting is cool, lugging around town it still confuses itself it seems.
Go for it. esp if its an 09 w/ no prior launches.

That dealer is an idiot

New MSRP is around 82 with the old MSRP at 74. You can definitely find under the New MSRP and higher then the old one.

Rumors of 2010 model going up to 99K for premium model with some tweeks.

If you don't use the LC, then it's a non-issue. If you break the transmission, it's covered.

Came from a 997GT3. GTR is easier to drive. But GT3 is more fun and connected with the driver. Both great cars in different ways. I'll definitely still miss the GT3.

I used the LC once just to see what it's like. Not a big deal and nothing broke. Just make sure if you do decide to try it. All the fluids are up to operating temperature. I personally don't see the big deal about LC and probably won't use it again.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!
Well, seems like local dealers are fixed on getting some significant premiums. Seeing that car again tonight just makes me want to break out my checkbook
I think it's impossible to get a reasonable deal with a 997S trade-in. I'll get killed one way or another. I think I just have to be patient and wait for a private buyer of my 997S and do a courtesy trade for old MSRP.

If you want to save yourself some money then shop around and buy a old MSRP 09. There are still plenty of them floating around(just look at ebay). Put your P-car up for sale and be ready to jump on a GTR when you find the right car. New MSRP 09's cars are already hitting the dealers lots so if your serious and want to save money now is the time to buy. The MSRP prices are going to do nothing but go up. 2010's(probably another price increase) are really only about 5-6 months away.
