you are assuming a lot with that statement. 03-04 cobras don't need a hell of a lot of mods to put down 500+ rwhp. best of all, its easy to make that level. open any mustang magazine, it's not too much of a secret!!! if you throw, say +$7000, you're passing the 600+ rwhp range. thats just stupid cheap power.

with regards to the video, it sounds like the mustang is running out of gear at a relatively low speed of 100 or so. no doubt it's got a tall final drive for drag racing. had the gtr not given up it woulda pulled the mustang eventually.

i'll take the gtr home though . life is not a straight line after all!

03/04 Cobra with an exhaust, filter, and upper pulley will put down 460 to the wheels. At 3600 pounds compared to the GTR at 3900 and around 410 to 430 to the wheels and numbers show Cobra has an advantage.

You guys fail to see 1500 bucks in an 03/04 Cobra (not counting N2O of course) can get a 03/04 Cobra to 480 to the wheels pretty quick.

Horsepower is just a number, the power band, gearing etc will be the deciding factors.

Maybe you have not read up on this but a GTR with JUST THE ECU will make those numbers..
Cobb ECU 900
Gutted Cats Free/Cheap
Around 500whp for the GTR and some very low 11sec passes.. On run flats

can you state what mods? The car starts off with 390 bhp, not wheel HP. And it has a supercharger. A $400 tune adds about 30 bhp. Pulley adds about 30 bhp and exhaust adds about 20 bhp. These mods would cost a total of about $1500. That is 470 bhp, very respectable but not far from the 480 to the wheels you mention. More like 400 to the wheels. Easy hp, but where are you getting the next 80 whp for free?

The 03/04 Cobras put down 365 to 385 to the wheels in stock form. They were very underated. $69 filter kit will take the car to 400 to the wheels. Exhaust, tune, and a 2.75 upper on top of the filter will make 460 to 480 to the wheels.

You stating in bhp numbers show you have no idea what the car is capable of. You will have to trust me on this one because I know a thing or two about the 03/04 Cobras

Its not like you ad the fastest stock eaton car in the country or anything at one time. Not to mention a stegimer port will put these cars at over 500whp. Ahlso these cars are putting down 800+whp on stock long blocks.

Didn't realize that they were that underrated. What kind of 1/4 mile et and speed do they typically do in stock form.

The 03/04 Cobras also come from the factory ready to take abuse like a good Vegas hooker!
Can't say that about this new GTR!

I remember reading how John Coletti engineered the Cobra drivetrain so it could handle up to 1,000 drag strip launches. To say these cars are robust is an understatement.

I'd still take the GTR over the Cobra, though. By all accounts, the GTR is a real road course monster.

A lot will say it is just a Mustang but I don't care who you are, a done up whipple or kb Cobra would put a smile on anyones face driving such a torque machine for the money.

GTR is a great car but they did hype the car a great deal.

As far as 03/04 Cobras go, couple more years as twin kits become cheaper, they will become the domestic Supra only taking less boost to produce the same power.

They've already began to go that direction.....I remember back in 04 when they had be out for about a year and had really begun making a name for themselves around the streets. I was saying to myself, this is the gonna be the American Supra and they were only made for 2 years. I wanted one so bad, so I could throw a KB Blower on it and live the 600+whp life.
