R33 GTR track car only?

I recently took the registration and insurance off my car because of fear from all the issues of the govnt cracking down on skylines. So after this the car has just been sitting in my garage waiting for a track day. Would this be the only use for the car now? I would really hate to have it as just a track car as it used to be my weekend warrior.

Seizing the cars and deporting them or crushing them. But unfortunately though I'd say that's the only use you could get out of them for now. There's so many here in Japan though so at least you could buy one here and let me hold it for you.

If the car was imported illegally (meaning, parts or Kaizo configuration), it's an illegal car and can be seized or exported either way. Although our logical minds seem to think that removing the car from the road system alleviates all wrongdoing, cars are force exported based on illegal importation, and removing it from the road leaves it at the same risk. It's possible that if your car makes the list, they'll come looking for the chassis at the last known address, but perhaps not.

Not having it registered certainly makes it harder to *find*, however. It's certainly not likely to get picked up or spotted somewhere if it isn't in the system.

If your car was imported as a shell, and had a drivetrain put in it later, it was imported as parts (legally). You could pull the drivetrain and it would be legal again. You could go crazy and put in a chevy LS9, or something, and you would not have created a duplication of a non-importable car using legal parts, and I believe you could argue a kit car registration if you replace the rest of the pieces with DOT equivalents. The LS9 would even meet emissions and give you OBD-II, then just take care of some of the other pieces, and the kit car route would have a strong chance of sticking.

That is a pretty interesting concept that I couldn't even imagine. So if i do decide to pull the drivetrain and do an LSX swap I could have a chance to registering it as a kit car? But then the problem would lie in having the car being titled already wouldn't it? This may be a considerable option since i do have an ls1 swap about to go into an rx7 in my garage...

The EPA kit-car regulation is here:

The production, sale and importation of vehicle parts (engines, transmissions, chassis, vehicle bodies, etc.) are not regulated by EPA because parts are not considered motor vehicles under the Clean Air Act. However if the parts constitute a disassembled vehicle or an approximate disassembled vehicle, the combination is considered a motor vehicle under the Clean Air Act. Any attempt to use this policy to circumvent the Clean Air Act or the Imports regulations will be considered a violation of the Clean Air Act and will be strictly enforced.
There is no LS powered Skyline in Japan to not make the import list, so as far as I can tell, it's not circumventing the import regulations. I don't know how your current car is VINned, but if it's based on it's chassis number, just go in, ignore the number, and tell them you need a VIN issued as you assembled the car from parts. If it already has a US Vin, you may need to get creative.

When Kaizo was raided, they took all the cars that had RB engines in them and left all the alternatively-powered chassis alone, as well as the shells. Only those were in violation, according to them.

Do you own that sushi restaurant near the Seaport in NYC? I was eating there one day when I saw a white R33 and my friend told me it was the owner's car. Anyways, nice car man. I was going to go up and say hi to the driver but I didn't want to disturb him as he was picking up his girlfriend ... So if that was you, then nice car and nice restaurant ...
