tt S vs 2012 GT-R

Thread cleaned up. I'm sick and tired of the trolling that's going on in here. If you aren't interested in having polite, healthy discussions...don't post. The next time I see a troll post, the member who posted it will be temp-banned.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Explain this. Does independent testing debunk Nissan's advertising and justify the claims that the ring cars were setup to run at the ring with special tires and who knows what else? I am totally impressed with the Mustang Boss 302. It spanked the GTR. Don't get me wrong, I think the GTR is a good car, I just don't think it is the wonder car that Nissan Advertising made it out to be. And I do think that the GTR sales would have tripled if they had offered a 6 speed manual car for less money and weighing a bit less.

Anyway, there are 40 independent tests listed below. The pre-2012 GT-R is faster than the 997.1 and 997.2 Turbo in 34 of them (85% success rate). Keep in mind that the GT-R was running run-flats in ALL of these tests. Based on the below data, I'd say it's quite probable that the GT-R (or the driver of the GT-R) simply had a bad day at Laguna Seca.
As far as the Boss 302 goes, I'm impressed with it as well. But I think as we see more data from it over time, it will show itself to be similar to the E92 M3.....consistently a step behind the 997.1 Turbo, and even further behind the GT-R.
I hope this helps answer your questions.

How do we know those are independent, Is there any info that those were done by true non partisans? Way to many discrepancies on a car that should be the most consistent of all since it does all the work for you. Scott, Even a true independent test from evo magazine comparing the GTR to the 997 GT2 on a mildly wet nurburgring, which should have favored the GTR, the win went to the "widowmaker" GT2. The GTR is definitely a great machine. In fact for an average to less skilled driver it is likely the fastest ride. I would probably be faster in it than a turbo. This is an old argument and we have been on it over and over again. It was probably pointless of me to even post, but like HC, I will never believe the posted times until I see it for myself in a dealer purchased car.

See for yourself, I guess. The Laguna Seca results you posted are listed as well....

I will. I think for the next few years (or longer) I'll always have a GT-R in my garage, but I definitely want another P-car as well. Actually, I think a 7GT3 would compliment my R1K very well...

7gt3 will definitely do. If I win the power ball, I'll get you one

Comparing the Turbo S to the 2012 GT-R from a purely performance perspective...
....here's the Car and Driver Lightning Lap results from 2006 to the most recent event in 2011. The Turbo S was the 2nd fastest Porsche ever (only 1.6 seconds behind the 2011 GT3 RS!), but both were slower than the 2009 GT-R. The 997.1TT's time is in 36th place.
Two things immediately come to mind when I look at this list: I'm very impressed by how much faster the Turbo 'S' is compared to the 997.1TT, and I'm very curious where the 2012 GT-R will fall out when they finally test it.

Scott, I noticed something more amazing.
Of the most frequently named cars on this list, Porsche's 911 is listed six times, Ford's Mustang and Chevrolet's Corvette eight times each.
I guess that Mustang is a supercar after all.

I would bet that there are far more GT-Rs on kid's walls these days than there are 911s.
As a die-hard Porsche fan, the ignorance of some you guys is mind-boggling to me. If you've never driven a GT-R, you really don't understand. I know a guy who owns a Porsche tuning shop who happens to be a sponsor on this forum. He literally has more professional Porsche racing experience than many of you have driving experience. He told me it would take at least $10k worth of suspension work, minimum, to make a 997TT handle like a stock GT-R. Now to some people, that may not be important at all. But to others, the performance aspect trumps whatever badge is on the car.
Performance is why I went with the GT-R. I wanted a daily-drivable 1k awhp car that will run sub 4-second 60-130s and low to mid 9-second 1/4 miles at over 160mph.
Having gone down that road before, spending more money in modifications alone on my 996TT than the cost of a slightly used 997TT, I know that no 996 or 997 Porsche will come close to achieving all of those numbers, thus leaving Porsche completely off the table. The only cars capable of that are modded GT-Rs and UGR TTGs. With only $200k to play with, that left the TTG off the table.
Some of you guys really need to get over yourselves. Your obsession with badges, marques, and showing off your 'money' is the kind of stuff I would expect to see from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Not from real car enthusiasts.
