2012 Nissan GT-R tuning @ TopSpeed Motorsports **Updates throughout the day



Today @ TopSpeed Motorsports, we have a very busy and exciting day ahead of us. We thought it would be fun to update this thread throughout the day with our progress on today’s small project car.... a beautiful Red 2012 GT-R!!

The days events will go as follows:

-Morning Baseline
-TSM ProTune by Doug Wilks using Cobb ALPHA Software
-AMS Downpipe / HKS Y-Pipe Install
-TSM ProTune with aftermarket parts
-TSM Race Gas Tune

We will be posting a few dyno graphs and pictures throughout the day for you guys as we complete each step. Stay tuned for updates on how the 2012 responds to the initial tuning as well as the bolt-ons. You can expect graph overlays from previous model stock cars as well as an overlay from a 2010 with the exact same mods we tuned last week.

Doug will also be posting a review of the new 2012 Cobb ALPHA software that we will be testing for the first time today.

If there is any information that you guys think would be beneficial or interesting to the community please feel free to throw in your two cents...I will be happy to entertain any requests if time permits.

Initial stock tuning complete!

The car responded great to Doug's tuning, the amount of power we were able to gain throughout the power band was awesome! We have a lot of work to do on the car before the end of the day so we unfortunately didn't have time to push the base map to its limits at this point, however on a conservative boost calibration we were still able to pull out some impressive gains.

The tune was set at a VERY conservative 17.5 PSI of boost peak, falling below 13 PSI @ redline. I have included a graph of the boost from the ALPHA logging software below for you guys viewing pleasure

If you notice on these graphs the amount of power picked up in the mid range its phenomenal!

I wanted to show you guys this picture just to give you guys an idea the attention to detail that goes into our tuning here at TopSpeed.

Currently one of the main hurtles Cobb is facing with their ALPHA software is the ignition/knock control in the ECU. As I am sure many of you know that is a pretty crucial aspect of safe tuning. That being said Doug has the control over some of the logic as it relates to knock in the ALPHA software. In order to further the R&D with Cobb, and ensure that our customer gets the most out of his tune safely, Doug pulled out his det cans to dig a little deeper into how the car is truly reacting. He uses this technology very often when tuning for international race teams in South America due to the lack of knock control on their standalone ECUs!

With this device he is able to listen for what the engine is actually doing as appose to relying 100% on what the computer tells him. In the hands of an experienced tuner the cans are a very useful tool, especially when testing somewhat unchartered technology.

So the 522/502tq is WHP with JUST a tune? I assume this is for 93 oct?

Great stuff guys! The 2012 is crazy, tb and tune=540whp!

Is it easy to take weight out of the gtr's? I love that it's semi flat bottomed stock!!!!

Carmi(gave up Facebook for new years, but miss seeing the posts u guys do on there)

So the 520 rwhp is on 93 and 540 rwhp on race fuel?
